2003 draws to an end...
Posted Dec 21, 2003
At this time with 2003 slowly fading away into the past and 2004 approaching at a brisk pace, I am forced to look back on a very strange year (at least for me). I don't know if I can say it's been a bad year because in the end (hopefully I can hang on for a little while longer) I have made it through in one piece. The beginning of the year started with a shadow hanging over my job in NYC and of course by February it reared it's ugly head and I was laid off. In the end it opened some interesting possibilities for me. I decided to stay in the NE for at least a little while longer by taking a job in CT. Staying in the NE allowed me to stay somewhat close to some of the people I have become attached to sense coming to this chilly part of the country. Now while it wasn't as a high paying as other jobs, it did promise a greater learning experience. With this change in job of course came a move. The fall through of the possibility of owning my own home was in some ways more of a let down then losing the job in NYC. The fall through also meant that I had to rush and find an apartment which I did luckily find and do like. I then had to get used to working this evening shift, which has put a kink in some of my plans from last year, but has opened a few options I didn't have before (like instead of having to take night classes, I could actually go to school during the day ). My car being stolen was not cool, but I did get a chance to learn that CT has way to many hills . 20 miles on bike/foot to work was an interesting experience. Thankfully the car was found before to long and I am back driving (well except for the clutch that went out about a week ago and the battery that didn't like the cold weather we have had lately, both are taken care of now though ). So that brings us up to the most recent events in my life. I have been contacted by my retention NCO for a position they want me to fill in a reserve unit based out of Providence RI. The position would require me to reclass to a new MOS, then take an instructor course, then start teaching people. While it does sound interesting and it would only be a reserve position I am not totally sure I want to do it. Right now the choice is not in my hands as St Louis will have to decide if they will be giving me an extension for my existing IRR ETS date, that would have expired next month. I guess I will be hearing one way or another soon and then it will be up to me to make the final call. I don't know what next year will bring for me. I know some things that I want to happen. I want to:
improve on my gym attendance (heck got to if I wanna be ready for 2007).
take some day classes at UCON Waterbury.
continue working on getting ahead and putting money away for a down payment on a house.
get some things from my past wrapped up and put to bed for good.
keep the recent improvements in my social life going.
work on getting a newer car.
take some trips I have been putting off for a while now.
I am sure there are many more but that's a pretty good start.
So here is a toast of sorts
To my fellow hootooers
For Faith our newest member, can't get much newer then that, may this year bring you more new wonders and surprises
For Amy P the only paper mother I know, will this year bring you some much needed and much deserved sleep
For Lady Scott and her amazing wood stacking abilities, may this year not bring any dead mice hiding in the walls
For Pauly and his faithful fuzzy companions, may your puns never run out
For Mr. C the guy stuck in the land called NJ, may your pen never run out of ink
For Shea and TJ, our couple in Long Island, may the Jacuzzi and never run out of bubbles
For Amy+ our wandering Student, may customs not find the warlord you are trying to smuggle back with you
For Clive, the warlord, may he have air holes in the box that Amy+ is trying to ship him in
For Batty our NYC transplant in NC, may your ini glass never go empty
For my Thingites, boldly taking on the norm, my never rust and your vocabulary not contain those dreaded day names
And for all my other fellow researchers, may you find your self with your glasses full and laughter in the air no mater where you are

How could it be against international law that the US cannot be picky choosy about who it gives contracts to with it's 18.5 billion worth of tax money going to Iraq
makes sense to me...and I thought that it was one of those diplomatic moves everyone has been crying for....you know using leverage not war to get your point across...it just makes sense oh well

For my fellow Americans happy Independance day...I day for many things and many thoughts
Some will celebrate with fireworks
Some will be lucky if the storms don't blow them away
Some of us or me I should say will be at work
Some of us feel so strongly against the gov't they will try to pretend today doesn't stand for anything
whatever your plans I hope the day turns out well for you
