How was the Opera Festival, anyway?

I've been going to the Wexford Opera Festival at Halloween for quite a few years now. Since I missed last year due to illness, it was great to be back and be in good health again. The operas are always obscure ones: this year it was Alessandro Stradella, by Flotow, Jakobin by Dvorak, and Massenet's Sapho. The Flotow wasn't special musically, but the staging was very funny and livened it up a lot. Other people were impressed by Sapho, but I thought the Dvorak was the best of the three.

Altogether, it was a great few days, but I've been busy at work since I came back, and now I have a huge backlog of other people's entries to comment on, not to speak of the stack of things I should be finishing off myself. And Christmas is on the way.....

Three Months Gone By

It was a double anniversary tonight - I'm here on h2g2 three months now, and it's just three weeks since I saw and yikes-ed a certain post.

I'm pleased with how I've mostly spent my time here - my Front Page entries have turned out well, and I got myself a really nice picture for one of them. I've a couple more in the Peer Review pipeline, and I should get the main part of my University Project finished this weekend.

The X-post controversy has been a bit distracting, though - I had enough of a proprietary interest to keep an eye on the various threads, but I feel that any useful result is now being worked on in various arbiter or charter schemes, and the original thread is going nowhere. So I'm going to unsubscribe, and work at something more interesting. (And if a certain person can't understand what I've written in plain English, well, that's not my problem!)

Let Other Pens Dwell on Guilt and Misery!

"Let other pens dwell on guilt and misery. I quit such odious subjects as soon as I can, impatient to restore every body, not greatly in fault themselves, to tolerable comfort, and to have done with all the rest."
Jane Austen - Mansfield Park.

I have been following the Great Intelligence Kerfuffle with stunned amazement. One abandoned thread on Peer Review, one protest thread on Peer Review, postings of explanatory articles, threads of recrimination and justification spiralling outwards...where will it all end?
