Another Lifetime Ban - Bigotry and Paranoia in action
SEF Posted Aug 9, 2003
I accept that some messages may have been deleted. However, the ones pointed to by the anti-LeKZ contingent from the aftermath threads do not seem to me to show what these people claim they do, ie I see things as being very much the other way round. In particular I didn't see any accusations of this "pain and horror" or anything to indicate that her attention was specifically directed towards females. Given that this whole interaction is virtual rather than real, you must be talking about mental distress rather than physical. Of course different people respond somewhat differently to things (eg massive overreaction springs to mind) but that still doesn't explain why the accusations made at the time do not match those you are making now.
Not entirely coincidentally I suspect, the few people still on site about whom I had already formed good (or good-ish) opinions from recent events were seeing things the same way back then as I retrospectively do. Whereas the people I had already believed to be unreliable on many levels were the same ones saying nasty and stupid things back then - not that they are likely to realise this even now.
As for your preference for the persecution of many innocents in order to catch one guilty person, that is normally regarded as both a minority and an unacceptable view. It shows how relevant the title of this thread is.

How long ago did you Yikes it? There might just be a delay - they have to hide it manually.
If you Yikes'd it first, it would probably have disappeared whether or not I had got involved.

The message was about 3 minutes old when I yikes'd it. The message said that they decided to leave it onsite

I was busy replying while it was there but I'm a bit slower at all this than the rest of you (both composing a reasoned reply and getting into a thread to view/reply/post in the first place).
Someone said yesterday that the site was running faster. Well not from my position it isn't. It was worse than it had been in quite a while.

Perhaps the number of complaints received counts towards the percieved "offensiveness". It's not coming back this time:
-----------------------------------------------
Dear h2g2 Reader,
Further to your complaint about some of the content on h2g2 (reference
number P3494316), we have decided that it does indeed contravene the h2g2
House Rules and have removed the offending material.
Thank you for pointing this out to us.
Best wishes,
The h2g2 Moderation Team

Peet may have explained it better than you Jodan or the double-yikes mattered or the decision may have been reversed by an italic (Peta was online).

Incidentally, as far as I can make out U188260 post-dates the LeKZ stuff anyway. Which would indicate they may have been someone else involved at the time.

SEF, I know the site is distributed over multiple servers; from my observations, about 7 out of 10 "clicks" are really responsive at the moment, while the remaining 3 out of 10 respond as if the info was faxed to Mongolia and delivered the rest of the way by mule train. As long as it's not a click on the "Post Message" button, I find that if it takes more than about 15 seconds to respond it's quicker to hit "Stop" on the browser and double-click the link again. (In IE and Mozilla, double-clicking a web link bypasses all cacheing and guarantees a "fresh" request to the server. )

Yes, I'd been doing a fair amount of stopping and restarting like that too. NB page update is also something like post which mustn't be repeated though. The 3/10 poor response fits quite well with the 1 out of 4 servers being dodgy.

Yes, it does. I didn't know when I posted that there were four servers; I just knew there were more than two. Between these postings I was reading the bug report threads and found a mention of "four" from Jim.

That's because it's all been hidden you ridiculous woman. I said that in the post that was so rudely removed.

Hidden, perchance, for the same reason your post was removed, in that leaving it there could cause distress to innocent third parties?

I'm not a woman. Nor was I being ridiculous. There were plenty of non-hidden accusations in the threads and people who professed to being LeKZ's friends but still having had hurtful things said about them. That much was very two way (and if you want to be trivial I'd say they started it!). However, the accusations there still don't match your hyperbole. So who/what does all that make you?

There actually seems to be a fair amount of relatively random and unjustified yikesing going on in various places recently. We've either got a new crop of button-happy lurkers who have learned to play the system (ie could be old hands really) or the mods have changed again (or both).

Can I just ask this, have the powers in the towers specifically said that they banned Symphony on suspicion of being LeKZ?
I also am wondering if there isn't a Multiple-phobia involved here, because I wonder if LeKZ may not have been initially persecuted and banned because of Multiple-phobia.
Maybe we should come out more openly here on h2g2 regarding our own multiplicity and see what happens. We're willing to give them a good fight.
