A day trip to London

Post 1

Lunch was taken at the Shakespeare's Head. Then I spent a happy afternoon visiting Tate Modern - The Bruce Nauman soundscape work in the main turbine hall is wonderful and a little spooky. I also wandered along both banks of the Thames on the Thames Pathway, and across the 'wobbly' bridge - not that it is wobbling much these days.

Those of you in the know will know what I'm talking about, and those of you who aren't will just have to wait smiley - winkeye

See here - F77636?thread=609391 - that a mobile version of h2g2 for use on a PDA and 3G phone has been released smiley - wow

The purpoose of my trip to London was to be one of the testers of the service. To have a little play around to see if I could break things, and what I thought of the layout and functionality and stuff.

This is the text of the e-mail sent by Jimster to the BBCi Testers group. As you can see, they were very keen on maintaining security and secrecy about the whole thing until launch day smiley - bigeyes

"As ever, this email is covered by the confidentiality agreements you agreed to when volunteering to join this group. Because of delicate agreements between BBC Marketing and third parties, we have to stress more than usual the importance of not discussing this onsite or with people not part of this group.

This year, we're celebrating the 25th anniversary of the first radio broadcast of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. To mark the occasion, we're overjoyed to be able to announce the imminent launch of h2g2 Mobile, an application developed by BBCi to run on 'smart-phones' and colour internet-compatible PDAs. We're aiming to have this up and running well in advance of the movie, which is due for release in April this year.

We shall be testing a 'beta version' of the application next Thursday, 24 February and need FIVE VOLUNTEERS who are able to be at our offices in White City, West London, for the entire day. Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer travel expenses, but volunteers will get an exciting preview of the future of h2g2 and cups of tea/coffee. Maybe the odd biscuit."

Mina, I've just checked the Testers group membership list, and I have to say it's time you updated your e-mail addresses for your Yahoo groups. All your Testers e-mail is heading towards your now dead BBC e-mail addy!

Thanks for checking, I'll go in and change it. I don't expect I would have been much use to them anyway, but it's nice to know about these things before the hoi polloi. smiley - biggrin
