Life is aggravating right now, Evangeline. They're about to replace the rugs where I work, and that means moving all the desks, chairs, computers, and a couple hundred shelves of books and videos (and audios) off of them. Plus, about six staff members will not be on hand to help with things because they're going on a group tour of Ireland. I've gotten very stressed-out weeding a lot of biographies and shifting the remaining ones out of on-the-rug bookcases into the stacks that are free-standing.

The other day, I felt like hitting somebody after days of this

We have an administrator who didn't or wouldn't ask for extra money to hire people to do the moving for us.

Is this administrator helping with the move or are they on the group tour of Ireland?

The administrator will be here, not in Ireland.

They should have foreseen how much faster and easier extra help would have made the job. Not to mention how much less time the library would be in disarray.

My spies in the town government have told me that the finance committee would have provided the resources if she (the administrator) had asked for them.

Was she afraid to ask or just being too obstinate about asking for help?

I have to say, I am quite familiar with the 'let's do it the most difficult way' concept.

She prides herself on not filling vacant positions, so she can return the unused money to the town at the end of the year. Meanwhile, all the other departments in town spend everything down so they can ask for more for the next year.

Someone should get a dictionary, assuming she spent the money to stock those in the library, and point out the definition of frugal. Frugal is not always the lowest price. It is doing and obtaining what is necessary without needless waste.

And, what you are having to do with so little help is needlessly wasting time. Since time=money in a work environment, she is wasting money all the same.

Maybe you should figure out the hourly rate of everyone involved in the move who are not doing their own jobs because of it and show the administrator how much more expensive it was to pay you all to do it vs. hiring a couple able bodied mover types for a couple hours.. send her a bill

oh and thanks for the nice comments on the hair though when I woke up this morning I thought I had a deranged irish setter puppy sleeping on my head..
