What to send?

What can I send my family - few of whom I have seen for more than a decade?

It has to be by the ether - the tribe met in a pub, yesterday, to 'exchange presents', a family tradition, started by my father in the 1960's as a subversive way to destroy the 'Royal Mail' and boost brewers' profits.

As usual, I missed that and snail-mail from Maroc to Ol'Blighty isn't fast at the best of times.

Any ideas?

'Who cannot be named"

Why - if you are convicted of breaking a child's back and killing it, or accused of raping a nine year old girl can you 'not be named - yet you can be splashed all over the press for having an affair or chaining your unrequited-would-be-lover to the bed post.

What are the 'for legal reasons'?

Stolen Phones & Plate Glass Windows

My morning today was taken up by having to get a new telephone as the taxi-driver helped himself to mine as he gave me a ride home last night. THE BAR-STEWARD!!!

The annoying thing is that it is the one I use for work (people ring me - I NEVER ring them) so I had to go to the Wana shop and get them too cancel the old card, buy a new phone and make the new one have the same number as the filched one.

No problem (just €10 I didn't want to have to spend) but it took about an hour to get the numbers changed. That and the fact that I will now have to load all the telephone numbers back on and 'yes' I do keep other copies of telephone numbers as phone stealing is a national sport here.

As a result, I now have a spare sim card! Any ideas what use this could possibly be put to? Perhaps a new competition for The Post.

BUT - an this is the interesting bit - as I left the shop, I turned round and walked straight into the plate-glass window instead of through the door.

Now - once upon a time - many years ago, I was sitting outside the restaurant at the end of the Serpentine in Hyde Park and watched someone do exactly that - it was hilarious and still makes me giggle, even to think about it.

It is not NEARLY so funny when you do it yourself - and the thought of it makes me cringe rather than giggle.

However, when I think of the Serpentine, circa 1972, I still giggle!

Something cock-eyed somewhere.

Auntie tells me that 'A court in Iran has ruled that a man who blinded a woman with acid after she spurned his marriage proposals will also be blinded with acid.'

Harsh - but after all that we've heard about Shariah Law being totally 'male orientated' - fair enough. An eye for an eye and all that but I don't doubt that the human rights activists and the paramilitary branch of the WI will be up in arms about it.

However Auntie also tells me that British justice has just awarded a lesbian army officer £200k compensation because a male office asked her for a bonk - and it upset her sexual proclivities, whilst the going rate for a chap who loses a couple of legs in Afghanistan (on behalf of HM's and Uncle Sam's governments, looking for someone who probably isn't there - and might well be quite upset, as he also liked jogging in his spare time) is about a 1/10th.

Something cock-eyed somewhere.

Just a Quickie

Madonna has never fatured large in my life but I now have a certain admiration for her (and her now nearly-ex husband)in ending their marriage in such a seemly fashion and thereby sparing us the agonies of the gutter-press revelling in the court cast.

smiley - bubbly
