Today's Film Tip: A87863467 - Meet the Rothschilds
It was totally surprising to find a warm, appreciative biopic of Nathan Rothschild...made in 1934. Pre-Hayes Office, naturally.

Re post 62:
I wrote my sister (and other siblings) and gave her the links to both the song and the Weltraumschiff film, Dmitri.
She answered me that she first heard about the song in a small old and slightly mouldy museum in Bagamoyo, Tanzania, where her German tour guide insisted that the text ought to be recited in Kölsch, sounding something like this:
Mir Nescher in Ostafrika
Mir singe allzugleisch
Mir wolle Deutsche Nescher sei
Mir wolle heim ins Reisch!
Okay, enough with the funny old German times, I promise to stop now

Today's Film Tip: A87863494 - Whiplash
An Australian Western TV series from 1960, starring US actor Peter Graves. Kangaroos and stagecoaches. A favourite from my childhood.

Westerns are not my favorite genre, like musicals aren't Tom's.

I'm with you, Amy - I'm not much of a Western fan.
You might get a kick out of today's short subject, then I promise to leave the Westerns and frontier stuff alone.
Today's Film Tip: A87863548 - Daniel Boone Was So Modern
Yeah, but the Yiddish version was hilarious.

Oh, I don't mind a western setting--'tis the cowboys-and-indians/gunslinger/ranchers-and-sheepfarmers schtick that's

Amen to that. Have you tried that new western, 'Longmire'? Much better, and the Cheyenne get a much better representation - by the best Native American actors.
Today's Film Tip: Something completely different, A87863557 - The Lost Cities of Europe
A time-travelogue of pre-World War II Eastern Europe.

Should be 'kalleh', sorry.
Although there's a connection between the Sabbath bread and a bride, apparently - which is why people make challah covers.

Shame on me.
Although I do know a funny story about challah. When I was at uni in Pittsburgh, we had a grumpy Hebrew instructor from Petah Tikvah. Being Israeli, he wasn't happy with all the Yiddish that went on in his adopted neighbourhood of Squirrel Hill. The people on Murray (aka 'Moye') Avenue had their own way of pronouncing things.
One Friday morning, our professor fussed, 'This morning, I was in line at that Russian bakery on Murray Avenue. The woman in front of me asked for 'holly'. And the baker sold her a challah! Outrageous!'
