Wintermute

Wintermute: A character from William Gibson's Neuromancer. In the novel, Wintermute is 1/2 of a pair of AI's created by Tessier-Ashpool, the other half being the novel's title character. Turing Law Code governing AIs place limits upon the intelligence of AI's, but Wintermute was programmed with a desire to merge with its twin AI, Neuromancer, in order to bypass these Turing locks. At the end of the novel, this merge was successful and Wintermute essentially becomes cyberspace.

Wintermute: A huge fan of cyberpunk who may or may not have an ego the size of cyberspace ;) He has been using the handle since his involvement in the BBS scene, before the Internet became widespread. Because of the current popularity of the handle, he often appends his Area Code, 740, to his handle, as was customary during the aforementioned BBS scene. He only does this if someone else has already used the handle on a given site, so it does create some confusion. This has created occasions when Wintermute has considered taking a different handle, but other potential handles are usually even more popular. Wintermute is a Network Engineer in Circleville, Ohio, USA, where he lives with his wife and daughters. Also, he's generally a hoopy frood who knows where his towel is. He can also be found hanging out on Nitemare Cafe, the site he owns and operates.
