They say the Guinness tour is brilliant. It costs a bit now, which it didn't when I went in 1964 (I was 16 but they still served me a nice half pint at the end).

Guiness tour is great. So is the Jamieson distillery. If you go there put your hand up to volunteer and you'll be included in the
whisk(e)y tasting. Both are incuded on the tourist bus tour which I find worth the money. Witty Irish drivers who sing -sometimes. You might hate it,though.
Sorry I don't get to Dublin until 15th. Any chance of meeting on your last day?
It seems my favourite pub has just burnt down but there are quite a lot of others! smiley - starsmiley - star

I'd agree, the hop-on-hop-off bus tour is a good idea, and the view from the Gravity bar at the top of the Guinness brewery is fantastic.

I'm about to book my train ticket - should be arriving at Connolly just after 10, and will aim to get the last train home at 20.50.

If you're interested in old books, TC, the Book of Kells A699023 is one of the greatest examples of an "illuminated manuscript". It's a copy of the Bible complete with pictures made in about 800 AD. It's in Trinity College right in the heart of Dublin. The visit takes you through the history of manuscripts before seeing the actual book.

The collection of pre-Celtic gold in the Archaeology and History Museum A6359844 is fascinating.

I see there were some recommendations here in an earlier journal of mind.

And I have found my journal on the Book of Kells, too.

F56786?thread=4014716

We saw the whole thing there in facsimile and could turn the pages ourselves. Of course, we shall go and see the original, even if it is dark and open at one page behind glass.

I thought the Guinness exhibition was terrible. But we didn't do the guided tour; we just went as tour guides to see the places we might be taking tourists.

My whixk(e)y spelling was deliberate. The tasting includes whiskies from both Scotland and Ireland to see if you can taste the difference. Then you can have a full tot of your preference even if it's Scotch. smiley - starsmiley - star

We could have a cup of tea - or a light, early evening meal together on the 20th, WS - our flight leaves that evening.

Everyone else I hope to see on the 11th at 11 am in (on?) Stephen's Green at some landmark still to be determined. The weather, of course, will be glorious.

It's "in Stephen's Green" rather than "on".

If you go to the centre of Stephen's Green, you will find an open area with fountains and flowers. The fountains are usually switched off, though.

We can meet at the west fountain, or if it is raining at the small summerhouse just beside it.

Don't know which way west is? Face the sun and it will be on your right. This is important because there is another summerhouse at the other end of the flower area.

Let me know where. Gnomon has my mobile phone number. Will you be meeting where we can get food or should we eat before we join you? (I can't believe I'm asking this question now!)

Very slight change of plan at my end - I may go for the 7pm train home, as it stops at Lisburn.
