Nonsense yes. But we know that *now*, and yet still the antiquated old buffers have a stranglehold on the Party.

Each must make his peace with his own demons as he sees fit.
Frankly a plague on all their houses would do me nicely. But let's not pretend that another ound of Proposition 13 type tax cuts will get the job done in California. At least, not without the ghettoes boiling over, just like they did under Ronnie.
And lets remember that Ronnie aklso presided over the biggest rise in the US deficit since records began...In fact he made it so large that at last count, every tax dollar raised west of the Appalachians goes to pay off the *interest&* alone.

I don't know, but i'm bright enough to know that i don't know, and not suffiently interested in self agrandisment to try and fool anybody else thast I know either.
Anybody who claims to know how to solve that particular problem is either a fool or a liar. And in the case of the present incumbent and his most likely replacement, probably both.

Frankly, like Blair and his cronies, all anybody can hope to do know is ride the tiger without falling off. Governments have no control whatsoever over economies anymore...

I'm inclined to agree, but if it means handing over control of the economy to self-centred b*st*rds like Rupert Murdoch and his ilk, then thats no good either.

A happy medium is required- that's what bodies like the monopolies Commision and industry watchdogs are supposed to make sure of.

Yes indeed.
Just like the NEA and the Rivers Authority and all those other magnificent bodies that just go to prove that unless you weild a bloody great stick, business will pay no attention to the concerns of anybody save themselves.

I don't *expect* anything from them. Which is why they have to be hit witha big stick called Government occasionally.

I'd rather a Government set-up agency myself- I'm not keen on direct intervention. Just so long as the body has power...

Anybody read "Fast Food Nation", sheds some interesting light on the way the Anti Trust organisations work in the states. Don't think that is a "Happy Medium" myself.

In fact, according to 'Fast Food Nation', nobody in the States is happy with a medium... Oh, please yourselves...
who actually caught himself ordering a large nachos and *diet* coke at the flicks the other day...
