Well, I didn't think the second one was quite _that_ bad. Sure, it was nowhere near as good as the first, but it was still moderately entertaining.
Cool cinemas are good for heat exhaustion (particularly when combined with chilli n' cheese nachos ), but the UGC at Newport had a faulty air-con system, and I didn't really feel up to such masochism.

I just T2 was an appalling waste of celluloid.
Faulty air-con? Been working ina building with that throughout the last two weeks. Not a lot of fun and I don't blame you.

Why? The plot is nonsenseical given the events of the first. It has a nauseating child actor in it. It attempts to paper over plot holes by use of explosions. It has Arnie trying to act. I just don't remember a single favourable thing about it.
Oh, except Big Arnie's death scene which made me and the then girlfriend laugh until we were crying. Whcich didn't go down too well with the rest of the audience.

Will you stop going about the buggered air-con in your place. At least one day it'll be fixed- we just don't have it, full stop.

I thought that as child actors go, that specimen wasn't too bad. Ah well, different strokes for different folks...

Honestly? I wanted the kid to be killed. It was a cheap emotional device - put a kid in peril, and it *sucked*. Just like it did in Jurassic Park, because you KNOW that no Hollywood blockbuster will ever kill children, so it becomes a pointless exercise putting one in danger.
Honourable exception : Aliens.
I actually preferred Alien3 to T2, and god knows that's a *dog* of a movie...

Leaden footed and dull, al three of them. Not a patch on something like 'Valley Of Gwangi' which at least has the decency to finish before your bums gone numb.
Can *anybody* explain to me why it is that making a movie 2 1/2 hours long when it only needs to be 90 minutes is seen as a virtue these days? If you don'ty think the punters are getting value for money, make b movies, newsreels. I dunno. Just stop *padding* the main feature beyond its natural length.

You've noticed that irritating habit too? LOTR films I can accept being long, but film makers seem to consider it a mark of 'worthiness' of late.

I blame Kevin Costner. Not just for overlong movies but for just about everything, really.
Though as a trio of massively overlong movies Dances with Wolves, Wyatt Earp and Waterworld would take some beating...

Thing is, what usually makes a film seem TOO LONG is not necessarily how long it is. I've seen 90 minute films that I thought would never end.
Personally, I could have watched even another hour of LOTR (well, without quite so many battle scenes, as in The Two Towers). But if they had done more character development stuff I would have been mesmerized. Also they didn't leave the second film where the second book leaves off, which I think was a shame.
Further to what you said, Blues, about not watching sequels. I was so disappointed in Reloaded even though I totally loved the original Matrix. And T1 was very good IMHO. T2 was a joke. And the new series of Star Wars has left me totally cold - though I only saw the first one (that was bad enough).
However, LOTR was always going to be a trilogy, so the following films cannot be termed as 'sequels' per se. The same with the original Star Wars trilogy as it had been planned to be a trilogy all along.
Quite possibly the best sequel ever made was Godfather part 2.

I'd agree with all that. LOTR doesn't come with a number, and Godfathr 2 is of course, the inevitable exception that proves the rule...

I didn't find Dances with Wolves overlong- it managed to hold my interest throughout. Most long films, however, suffer from dead patches two thirds of the way through.

Dances with Elephants held my interest ok, but my arse certainly knew I'd been to see that movie. And the directors cut at nearly four hours is just taking the p*ss, frankly.

That's probably the difference- I've never sen it at the pictures, just in the comfort of my own home, with a pause button should I want a cuppa.

Mu Beta Posted Aug 11, 2003
There have been a few films which I've finished watching and then been amazed that I'd been sat there for 2 1/2 hours, which is surely some sign of greatness.
Apollo 13 was one (pretty amazing for a film where everyone already knew the ending), American Beauty was another.
And I still don't like LOTR.

American Beauty I found odd. I was interested yet aware that it was bloody long and pretentious at the same time.

Pause buttons, cups of and any other home entertainment advantage does rather negate the point, I'll think you'll find.
Havingsaid that i am still wondering whjat is going through Miramax's mind trying to make Kill Bill into two 1 1/2 movies...I mean, people cope with three hour movies well enough these days.
