Tailor-Made
Posted Jan 22, 2014
I'm currently in the process of writing an application for a very interesting job.
But every time I think I'm ready to send it off, they e-mail me to say they've changed the requirements.
Every single time, it's some weird, obscure bit of experience they want. They seem to be tailoring it to a particular candidate.
What they probably don't realise is that they're tailoring it to me. Every time, I go "aaaaand - checkmark!"
The only requirement I don't entirely meet is published research - but h2g2 counts, right?

Horse acquired.
And next week he's moving to a new stable where I won't have to deal with any of the people involved again.

Horsey Woes
Posted Nov 2, 2013
No, I'm not doing the NationalJournalSpam thing, but I feel the need to post a journal...
I've always been obsessed with horses. Lately, I've been obsessed with one particular horse. I've been riding him for nearly a year now, we've both come a long way, and we're really becoming a good team. But the more I hear about his owners and their "training" methods, the more I cringe.
Luckily, after more diplomacy than I thought I was capable of and numerous cups of tea, they've now offered to sell him to me.
And we'd ride off happily into the sunset if it weren't for the owner of the barn where he's stabled. Let's call her M. When I went to tell her the good news, instead of being happy for me, she threatened to take him off me because R hadn't paid his bill. R being the boyfriend of C, the horse's legal owner. She said she'll padlock the horse in his stable until he pays her. Even if I buy him and he's nothing to do with them anymore.
I've been in contact with the horsey legal helpline and they say that unless she has a contract specifically allowing her a lien on this particular horse, she doesn't have any rights to him.
Unfortunately, I think she'd be capable of it anyway. I feel like I've been slapped in the face. And I want my horse!

A day of fails
Posted Oct 9, 2013
Everything seems to be going wrong at the last minute today.
I'm off work today - so far so good. And I was going to go see the horse, but I couldn't, because it was raining too hard.
So I went to run errands instead. First, the filling station declined my card. Then, IKEA was out of the things I wanted. And after I finally found the local saddler on a tiny back road, he told me repairing my saddle would cost more than I paid for it.
My bicycle tyre was flat, so I walked into town (not much rain here, just up in the hills). The jewellers' where I wanted to get my watch repaired was closed. The music shop was very condescending about my recorder (no, we only repair *real* instruments, get a plastic one, they're much handier) and didn't have the reeds I needed in stock, either.
My purchase at the chemist's fell down the drain just outside. And the greengrocer was already closed, and the supermarket didn't have any squashes, so dinner was squashless.
It's a good thing I have h2g2 to come back to, so I can blame 2legs. I never should've got out of bed in the first place!

There and back again?
Posted Aug 4, 2013
Just got an e-mail inviting me to a job interview in Germany.
It would be a really cool job and great experience. And my current job is annoying me muchly.
But I'm just starting to build up a life here and have several cool projects on the go, including a new medieval band that just had its first gig this weekend.
Panic time!
