Kohlrabi and an Iraqi Kurd
Posted Dec 15, 2011
Just went shopping to the Turkish Cypriot shop, and got talking to my favourite man there. It turns out he's a Kurd from Northern Iraq. I'm impressed with the shop because I know there are problems between Kurds and Turks.
He gave me a few suggestions on how to use the Kohlrabi. It's the first time I've ever cooked with it. I'm gong to do a veggie soup with onion, lentils and kohlrabi...a bit of potato I think..well we know how these evolve as you cook..
He is such a lovely man...and I told him I was his side after he said he was Kurdish. He looked very happy....but I wasn't completely sure what I meant when I said it...

More People here
Posted Dec 14, 2011
It's crying out for more people here.
I'd thought of getting the students moved in next door interested in new h2g2...or even helping to publicise it at the college. but I want to keep them as friends and neighbours for now...I don't confident enough in the new thing yet to invite them.
But I've this funny feeling things are now on the up...
And if I start to feel genuinely good and confident about this place I will invite them.
New Year sounds good.
(yes I know I'm an irrational optimist).

Home baked baguettes, garlic and thyme bread.
Posted Dec 13, 2011
Okay 2legs inspired me yesterday to put a poolish on for the first time in months.
I had plenty of French flour left I was pleased to discover in the old cupboard.
Made the baguettes earlier with the nicely frothed poolish. Two rises. Just gone in oven.
Made a concoction of good olive oil, crushed homegrown Italian garlic, a variety of garden thymes blitzed, plenty of salt and freshly ground black pepper corns.
Once the baguettes are baked and cooled...shall use concoction to make a type of garlic bread. This is a new experiment for me..and lovely to get back to a bit of home cooking again. Back later.

Hunter/Gatherers and Douglas Adams
Posted Dec 10, 2011
Found a good site for some of his talks.
Quality isn't great but perfectly understandable.

I've given up trying to discuss this issue, ie anything connected with our essentially 'Hunter/Gatherer' genotype, here now on general threads as it keeps being sabotaged for some unknown reason.
And I simply don't have the tolerance of late for those kinds of games of ways of not engaging intelligently in discussion. And I'm not meaning just seriously; on the contrary. I'm all for playfulness and creativity..but that's the point creative jamming..not pointless destructiveness.
There are plenty here who like and enjoy that like me...but it only takes one or two to utterly ruin it.
I don't have the patience anymore.
And I don't want another ban.
