Self-definition
Er, well. I take it this is where I'm supposed to tell the Galaxy (or at least everyone here on h2g2:e2) about who I am and what my credentials are, i.e., why anyone should believe a word I say. Ok, um, well.
The Me You Know and Love
Know me here, the Net, as my (alas, preferred) alter ego: reasonably eccentric, often facetious and/or sarcastic, much given to over- or under-statement, usually shy and aloof but changing to outrageous without warning, spelling -challanged, over-endowed with commas and/or hyphens (no help for it), and parenthetically expression-impaired. ALERT: I lurk quite a bit. You'd be surprised how many threads I've read...
The Real World
In the Real World I am: female; single; young-ish (but of majority); American--but don't hold it against me; a sometime musician 1 ; a social worker by profession; and have a piece of paper from an institution of higher learning which is, as it turns out, next to worthless.
Also, I read. A lot. Ok, so maybe it's not going to cure cancer or bring World Peace to our planet, but I read it. At the moment I'm reading Someplace to be Flying by Charles de Lint, Bridge of Birds by Barry Hughart, and The Dagger and the Cross by Juduth Tarr. I'm also waiting for Robin McKinley to do her next wonderful thing.
I'm breathlessly awaiting The Fellowship of the Ring. This movie, based on J.R.R. Tolkien's first book in his Lord of the Rings trilology, will be released on 19 December, 2001. I'm excruciatingly excited. 2
Only Because Someone, at Some Point, Asked
People sometimes wonder what music musicians are into. For the benefit of anyone curious, I'll tell you that right now, in random order, the disks in my changer are:
- John Hiatt, Crossing Muddy Waters
- Brian Setzer Orchestra, The Dirty Boogie
- Bask, Bask
- Maynard Ferguson, Verve Jazz Masters
- The Electrics, Living it Up When I Die
- Kitka, Nectar
- Dan Tyminski, Carry Me Across the Mountain
- Saint-Saƫns, Symphony no 3 "Organ"
- Paul Simon, Negotiations and Love Songs
- Harry Connick, Jr., Blue Light, Red Light
Things to Do
One of these days I'd like to:
- See the Aurora Borealis.
- Tour Norway's Stave Churches.
- Participate in a re-ride of the Pony Express.
- Attend a live broadcast of A Prairie Home Companion.
- Be far enough out to sea that I can't see the lights from land.

A Cry for Help
For some reason I find the idea of writing in British English very unsettling. Chicken in Black thoughtfully diagnosed the problem as LUDS (Letter U Deficiency Syndrome) soon after I came to h2g2. I'm hoping to find some good and decent soul who will volunteer to read my first article or two before submission and thereby keep me from looking like the idiot this whole issue makes me feel. Can I impose on you? Please post!

This is my very first attempt at Guide ML (I'm so proud I can't stand myself), so be gentle. I do, however, want to know about broken links, Guide ML problems, spelling mistakes, or whatever else bothers you.
I have asked none of the persons, places, or things linked to for their permission to do so. All information contained therein is assumed to be proprietary. You got a problem with that? Tell me about it
If you leave your mind sufficiently open,
people will throw a lot of rubbish into it.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
