|Bread with Jelly| |Just Bread| |Bread with Peanut Butter|
This allows you to lick clean the jelly from the knife... EEewww! Wait... It allows you to easily spread the last little ort of jelly onto the middle piece of bread (facing the Jelly slice), so the knife is clean and ready to spread the Peanut Butter on the third slice. You can wipe the remaining PB on the middle slice or...EEewww!...lick it from the knife. [Oh, and Jelly BEFORE Peanut Butter, because Jelly comes off the knife easier than Peanut Butter.]
Once assembled with |B+J| | B | |B+PB| you'll find the sandwich stays together much better, not "sliding apart" because of the different viscosity of Jelly versus Peanut Butter, and their refusal to adhere to one another directly. Rather, the Jelly is encapsulated between two slices of BREAD, and the Peanut Butter is likewise encapsulated between two slices of BREAD. And never the main shall tweet! Except in your mouth, and--later--in your tummy.

Good morning!
for everyone who's up.
I do like peanut butter. With jelly, especially grape. I like to make peanut butter and jelly sandwoch cookies- bake the peanut butter cookies, spread jelly on the undersides, and clamp two together. Yummy.
OK, I've finished my coffee and I need to finish getting ready for work. See you all around my normal time.

Can I just clarify that by "jelly" you mean what us weirdos over this side of the Atlantic call "jam" ?

I have, in the past, been led to believe this is the case. It still doesn't stop me imagining it to be jelly/jello though.

I do wonder what a jelly sandwich would be like
A slice of jelly and a slice of ice cream between two wafers

Jelly and jam are different here- jelly is a spread made from fruit juice and sugar and pectin. Jam has lumps of fruit in it. And what you lot call "jelly" is called gelatin over here. That I can't eat.
Also just because I read all the backlog... Icy, the video linked to was "Night Shift" by the Commodores, a 70s/80s era funk/soul/Motown band. The song's about Marvin Gaye, and his death (his father killed him).

We do have jellies sort of like that in the UK but usually they're usually used as accompaniments for meat or cheese.
I think the assumption that jelly and jam are synonymous comes from the fact that we UKians can be very insular and inward-looking (I know, shocking innit? )

I'd also say it comes from the fact we hear it alluded to in the telly programmes we're given, but never actually have it explained. It's fruit based, it goes in sandwiches, must be jam
I think there's been a recent trend for "smooth jams" which is what I'm guessing US Jelly is from the explanation.
Personally I like my jam with bits in. Gives me something to do for the rest of the day picking the seeds out of my teeth...

There is something wonderful in putting a dollop of jam on your toast and discovering you've actually extracted a whole fruit.

Sometimes, on a weekend, I have a round of toast with Marmite followed by a round of toast with jam. All washed down with a nice cup of or three.
