Hi, welcome to The Prequel, I see you have started Chapter 3, which is good as the story seemed to be losing it's way a bit.
Need to develop the Tricia MacMillan sub-plot a bit more, also see what Arthur is up to bearing in mind he will only be about 16 at the moment(he has been in the story once so far). If I remember right, Ford and Arthur don't meet until about 10years into his stay on Earth.
Like your start to the 3rd Chapter, so will move things on a year, that is Ford's 2nd year stuck on Earth

I thought it could use a time break I've read the whole thing, in fact I was a bit surprised to come to the end; it realy does read pretty well!
I wish I had found it sooner, but now that I have I'll do my best to fit in
I look forward to the continuation....and thanx for the welcome

How much difference in age is there between Arthur and Trisha? If she's in college and he's 16....

Simetra Posted May 2, 2005
good point, it's not clear in the book, but the lecture she is at may be a sixth form visit
Have you seen the film yet
Ford's Prequel
MurrayBostHenson Posted May 2, 2005
ahhh, nice out
Yes, I saw it opening night. I must say I'm a bit dissapointed, I think it fell a bit flat.
Don't get me wrong, I'll probably see it at least three more times in the theater, as well as buy the DVD. I wanted this to be bigger than LOTR! I just think they shouldn't have departed quite so much from the original story.....I KNOW each version is different, but there is plenty of material in the existing works to give a better impression of DNA's true genius.
Of course I also wish they had stuck with Mark Wing-Davie as Zaphod and Simon Jones as Arthur.
And Zaphod is the one who suggests the Restaurant at the end of the universe

Time moves on and the actors from the origianl series are I'm afraid a little older, but Simon Jones does get a cameo in the film and what about the original Marvin getting a bit part.
I felt it was always going to be a difficult one to film, I think the more you see it the more it will grow on you.
Have seen, read andlistened to all versions, including the theatre production at Theatre Clwyd where they served Pan Galatic Gargle Blasters in the interval. So I went to see the film with an open mind and enjoyed it.
Shame they could not have used Stephen Moore for Marvin but I think Alan Rickman did it very well, Stephen Frye was OK as the book but you did not tend to notice the voice of the book in the same way you did with Peter Jones.
Bill Nighy as Slartibartfast, well it was Bill Nighy being be Bill Nighy and I think it worked
Will there be The Returant??, well it depends on how well HH does in the States, I hope it is made.

Ok, you got me on the actors. And yah, I loved the cameo's.
Was it just me, or was there a statue of Agrajag that the camera focused on for an extended second? I think it was on Viltvodle VI?
And I'm not saying I didn't enjoy it I had a great time, and my girlfriend, who wasn't a fan, said she had a wonderful experience, and understood everything perfectly.
As far as it doing well in the states...it's different than the norm, thats always good!
Harry Potter has done well, if thats any indication

Simetra Posted May 2, 2005
Agrajag, hmmmmm, missed that one, I'm sure there are other references in the film as well, need the DVD to study it closer. Did you get the Sunday Times wuth The Month DVD, it has a 1/2 interviews with the HH stars, interesting, off to bed now, catch you in the week.

What happened to everybody? Not that I'm not having fun with it, but we've been the only posters for days!
Also, in reading back, Dirk could concevebly be around college age, more or less, we could work him in more. He is supposed to be psycic and all that.

Simetra Posted May 5, 2005
I think dirk is accepted as being ageless and is well worked into the story at the moment, perhaps bring him back later on, but the trouble is he tends to take over, there is also the question of how he may survive the distruction of the earth. Notice MyteriousOne is bring the whole thing up todate

Good point, is that better? (See my recent post )
You've got a good sense of style, I you keeping this together

I think the secret is to go with the flow, the story may be going fine with what appears to be some form of structure, then someone will make a flippant joke or ridiculous diversion, this usually opens up a whole can of worms and stops things getting to predicable, this is a good thing. The story can always be brought back on track later on. The important thing though is some thought to the time-line of events and age of characters, while it is not vital things are spot on, it can niggle if it does not fit (if you excuse the pun) a DNA profile. I think it helps anyone new to this post to read MysteriousOne's story so far postings.
Charaters whose lifes we need to consider
.. .......
Tricia MacMillan
Arthur Dent
Martin Smith
and some others which could complicate things....I have just thought of but will not tell yet

I can't think of which ship you could be reffering to so I'm just gonna wing it
Feel free to print a retraction if you don't like it, this is your baby after all
Ford's Prequel
Simetra Posted May 19, 2005
I hadn't really decided what space ship it should be, but yours was OK, I don't think we will persue it though, I,m sorry Mr Prosser didn't take off as well as I thought, may bring him back later, we must keep an eye on Mavis, she is developing into an interesting character. It's good when someone pops up out of the blue with a rouge posting, helps send the story into new areas.
Ford's Prequel
MurrayBostHenson Posted May 20, 2005
I was just going for a ship he'd recognise.
besides, I think Earth would be exactly what disaster area would look for in a planet, so it's semi-plausible, right?
we can have some fun with Gabbie too, Most people consider ailiens to be the big eyed grey ones, we can play off that. Gabbie could not beleive ford...or something
Ford's Prequel
MurrayBostHenson Posted May 20, 2005
and your right about Mavis, we could go a long way with her
Ford's Prequel
MurrayBostHenson Posted May 25, 2005
I know you've been thinking I got taken by the greys to stop the truth from getting out there
I've been a bit busy, I should be able to write a decent post today (I hope )
Still having a ball, hope U R 2

Hi, things have developed well with the help of other contributors, getting a bit stuck with this elder and comune thing now, need to make a dramatic change of story line, maybe bring Mavis back

Simetra Posted May 29, 2005
this is turning into a seriously good yarn, I love how your just touch about the mice trying to put the Earth back on track after the Golgafrincham problem, interesting idea about getting Ford out the country, I seem to remember somewhere a mention in the books about him having been to New York, will need to check to find context, keep up the good work fellow Prequeller
Ford's Prequel
MurrayBostHenson Posted May 29, 2005
I am sure he mentions New York at least. It goes something like:
"He opened the guide to the entry for Earth, and there it all was. Everything he had sent to his editor.
How if your an alien, just land in the middle of New York, noone will notice....."
And some other such. I'm pretty sure it's after the earth is back, so it's got to be somewhere after so long....Maybe Mostly?
And I'm glad you liked the bit about the mice, it's been kicking around in my head for awhile; I just couldn't find the right context.
Key: Complain about this post
