Yesterday being May day Bank holiday was unusual, it didn't rain until the evening and was jolly nice for most of the day.
The bald top tells me that the sun was being effective, had to put my hat on while out to avoid cooking.
Sunny Top temp 20C 68F quite breezy though so you didn't feel hot.

Today is pleasant 15C / 60F partly cloudy, dry at the moment but might rain tonight, however it's no longer a breeze winds up to 45mph which makes it force 8 so it's a proper gale.

Blimey. You fall asleep on the sofa under leaden, but unrainy, skies and wake up an hour and a half later to find that almost two inches of rain have fallen (1.47" in the past hour), that it's still rodding it down and we're under a flash flood warning

Another hour, another inch and a quarter, still raining.

And at 3.56" I think we might be done, at least for now. I'm certain that tomorrow morning when the reports are there'll be stations reporting higher totals for this four-hour period of rainfall.

Blew and P'eed down at 06:00 which woke me up early, been mostly dry since then still blowing well but the wind seems a lot lower than yesterday but the forecast is still >40mph until 18:00.
Predicted max 13C 55F with more rain due this afternoon.

So I'm not going to bother sweeping up all the little bits of tree littering our drive / carpark.

Round the area one or two trees seem to have lost branches but I haven't seen anything major (yet).

The final count at Camp Mabry was 3.84". Not bad for five hours, and there was some flooding. A few 4"+ totals have been listed on the local weather page.

We got just a brief drenching at JSC yesterday... Promptly at 9:00... Just after I decided to take a bike ride.

It's a good thing I keep a towel at work.

Meanwhile, I've heard a few reports of 7" of rain last night, and several low water crossings around Austin are still impassable and/or barricaded.

Today, a bit after nine I went for another ride. And when I got near Rocket Park (the same area as yesterday) it began to sprinkle on me again. I headed back to my building, but it slacked up and I headed back out. I was just beginning to think I was a rain god.


Then, after work, I walk out to a decent sprinkle. But the sky looks like it's clearing. So I wait a couple of minutes and indeed the sprinkling stopped... Just long enough for me to get on the bike and start to leave. At which time it came p'ing down. I headed for a covered spot and waited again, but it wasn't stopping now. I was already wet enough to not bother with putting on the rain gear so I just went ahead and got soaked on my way home on the motorcycle.

FYI, the average temperature for this time of the year is 85F/65F. Daytime temps lately have been pretty good (ie average), but we haven't gone below 70 at night for more than a week, I think. Last night, for instance, the minimum was 76/24.4

They're forecasting a cooler and wetter than average summer this year.

And checking back on the almanac page the record high for yesterday, May 9th, was 99°... in 2011.

Oh joy; a tornado watch until 10pm.

The tornadoes, plus the storms, missed their cue.

Some friends rode out to Colorado for a biker rights conference. Their bikes are covered in a foot of snow.

I think I might have dodged a bullet going to work this morning - the weather's doing that thing where the rain is avoiding Austin, and for once I don't mind it

I dodged a bullet Saturday night when a brief, unexpected shower tapered off right at last call before I rode my bicycle home.

I might not be so lucky on the way home.

Me either. I'm in the car today but after work I want to take advantage of the wet week and put my motorcycle in the shop for a tune up and maintenance. Luckily, a new shop opened up a few blocks from home. Maybe I can catch a timely break in the rain.
