Nope, they got it wrong. We made all the way to 106. And what did I decide to do on the hottest day of the year? Sit outside for three hours watching a baseball game smiley - headhurts Here we are at 11.00pm and it's still 90° smiley - doh

I am in need of a shower.

I also. And that it's not going to be a sauna with 100% humidity. Yesterday, on my ride to lunch, I felt like a steamed clam.

It felt a whole lot better today for sure. It was a good deal more fresh when I left the house this morning to do the weekly shopping (by the way, how do I manage to stay alive when my weekly grocery bill is around $90 and half of that is beer?), and even this afternoon when I went to the mailbox it didn't feel like I'd just opened an oven door when I stepped outside. Although I did have that feeling this afternoon cos I baked a smiley - cake

The mercury dipped below 70F last night for the first time in two or three months. I've had the balcony door open and it actually feels a little chilly out there smiley - bigeyes

And yet we're going to be within a few degrees of 100 again today smiley - sadface

Well it just goes to show.

There were thunderstorms in the vicinity yesterday evening but Fort Gosho saw hardly a drop. Barely enough to wet the ground. So imagine my surprise when I look at the Camp Mabry weather details for the past three days this morning and find that they got 1.04" of rain between 8pm and 9pm, and an astonishing 2.15" between 9pm and 10pm smiley - yikes Camp Mabry is only five or six miles from here, and the storms didn't look all that bad on the radar at the time.

The reason for the rain is a cold front that should come through Austin around midday and drop the temperatures by not much, but enough to make it feel pretty good. Right now it's 73F which is a lot nicer than the 79/80 it's been these past weeks at this time of the day smiley - bigeyes And it's raining, so I'll have to take my Gamp with me.

I have the windows open and my a/c isn't running because it's only 82F and it didn't get any hotter than 84 all day. I may cry smiley - brave

It's been a bit quiet in this neck of the woods lately. Simple reason is that there really hasn't been much to report other than smiley - bleeping hot, and tropical storm Hermine dumping 7" of rain on us, reported elsewhere.

I think you count on one hand the number of days in August that *didn't* make 100F or more, but I don't think we had any 100° days *outside* of August this summer. Weird.

I think the heat is finally starting to ease off though. All the daytime maxima in the eight day forecast are in the low to mid 90s (average for this time of the year is 91), and this morning I actually woke up around 6am feeling chilly! We only went down to 73 last night, but I suppose when you're sleeping in the naughty naked nude and with no sheets on the bed... smiley - blush

Much nicer now, and change is a-coming in the way of a couple of autumnal cold fronts this weekend and early next week, sweeping out the stale, summer air smiley - biggrin We have forecast lows of 64, 62 and 63 on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights smiley - bigeyessmiley - brr

You wouldn't be doing that here right now, the weather has turned cold and blustery over night after a week of glorious warm weather. From t-shirts and shorts to scarves and gloves in 24 hours smiley - grr

Yep. As seems to happen every year we have a nice cool front come in just after the Autumn equinox to get our hopes up that we can turn off our A/Cs and stop sweating. But come next week it'll be scorchio again.

I agree that we probably haven't seen the last of the hot weather just yet, but I think we can wave goodbye to scorchio (although the latest recorded scorchio in Austin happened on October 2nd 1938 so it's a possibility). The forecast maximum on Wednesday is 89, and I'll take that over 95 any day, especially with this low humidity.

And night-time lows in the 60s are far preferable to 70s. I've had the balcony door open since I got out of the shower and got dressed - the outside temperature was around 58 at the time smiley - bigeyes First time we've gone below 60 since May 4th - 145 days ago.

Today, when I go to work, I'm going to leave the a/c off and the window open for the first time since April or May, and tonight, when I go to bed I think I might have to get the duvet out, also for the first time since April or May.

Finally, the weather's nice again smiley - biggrin
