Of course it's warming up. The winter weather gloves I had on back order throughout our week of actual winter should be coming in by the end of the week.

Another warm morning today.

Of course, you know that we'll probably have an ice storm next week... and your gloves will arrive two days later

We have showers today, then again on Saturday.

Bloody cold again We dipped a degree or two below freezing last night and it's going to be about the same tonight. Looks like it's not going to warm up again properly until this time next week. But we did manage about an inch of rain yesterday

Apparently it's snowing a bit in D.C.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, we have a possibility of rain and sleet on Wednesday, and a possibility of sleet or snow on Thursday night

This is turning out to be something approaching an almost wintery-like winter, by Texas standards.

Why does the phrase 'almost, but not quite entirely unlike' suddenly leap into my head...

No thank you, I'm drinking

There are a lot of very sorry-looking palm trees, cacti and succulents around town following these past few weeks of cold weather. That first blast in January when it went down to -8C resulted in plenty of brown palm fronds and drooping prickly pears. It also did for the bougainvillea outside a local Mexican restaurant. It's bloomed its last bloom

This winter is seriously outstaying its welcome. This morning was quite gorgeous. In fact, by 3pm it was bordering on 70/21. Then a cold front came through and an hour later it was 17°F colder... two hours, another 7°F off the temperature and a biting wind

Sod this for a game of soldiers.

Um... this is sort of weather related.

At 1:50 in you’ll see a prismatic rainbow effect in the clouds. This is known as “Sun Dogs”. It’s basically the same as a rainbow but in the opposite direction, i.e. toward the sun. (Rainbows appear with the sun behind you.)

Oh good grief, not again!

Forecast for Tuesday day:
36°, 60% Rain/Snow (Possible Light Accum's N/NW), Breezy, Falling Temps
Forecast for Tuesday night:
30°, 30% Rain/Snow Ending Late

And yet today we had what, for me, constitutes a summer's day - clear blue skies and 76/24.4. From summer to winter in 48 hours Love it or hate it, you can't ignore Texas weather.

Topped the 80F/26.7 mark today for the first time this year.

There's a tree outside the back door at work which I consider my bellwether for the end of winter. When it gets its first flush of new leaves for the year I reckon we've seen the last of it and spring has sprung. It also helps that the clocks went forward last night and it stayed light until well after 7pm this evening

Had to get up in the dark though, and will do for a few more weeks

I knew you were speaking to soon. We've got a cold front expected to get here this weekend that will drop us back into the 30's F.

I take it as read that every spring and autumn there will be at least one late front ( or scorchio respectively) that will "surprise" most folks.

Actually, since they moved DST up by three weeks, I don't even consider this [un]officially spring yet.

A fitting way to wave goodbye to SXSW

I was woken up at about 6.30am by torrential rain, then some thunder and lightning (very very frightening). Looks like we had half an inch in that first 30 minutes and it hasn't stopped raining yet, although it has eased off somewhat. It can continue like that if it likes - I have to leave for work in about 15 minutes. It's cold out there too - 50/10. We've had some beautiful spring days this week with plenty of sun and temperatures in the low to mid 70s.

This is one of those 'Oh fer cryin out loud, just rain will you? You know you want to' kind of days.

You to, eh? That's what I'm saying. I'm seeing darkish clouds to the North, but no rain yet. I really want some as my car is covered in the yellow dust of spring and I'm too lazy to wash it.
