Emee, out from under the rock

It's 35F/2C this morning and there is a light dusting of snow on some of the rooftops in town. We're supposed to have a high of 47. We won't see the top side of 60 until Monday.

It was around 30 this morning, but no snow. Tonight is supposed to be the coldest this month (around 22/23), and there isn't a 60 in sight. Supposed to get to 58 Tuesday rain, too, so it will seem colder, and drop again on Wednesday.

Excuse me while I go dig the hot chai mix out of the drawer...

It's perfect here. Lows in the 40's to 50's, highs in the low 70's, Sunny/partly clowdy afternoons yesterday and today. Riding the 'cycle is a blast in this weather. This weekend's going to suck though... very wet and cold.

Maybe I'll catch up on my Netflix DVDs.

We've got a forecast maximum for Saturday of around 49F/9.4 and an 80% chance of rain. Guess the Spamarama folks are SOL. Saturday night will get down into the 30s.

It should warm back up to upper 70s and low 80s by the end of next week.

Holy moly! A low of 38/3.3 at dawn this morning, and it's currently only a degree warmer at 10am. There's sleet on the radar only a few counties off to the west in the hill country smiley - brr It's raining here.

Records are going to be broken. The previous record for the lowest maximum on April 7th at Camp Mabry is 65/18.3, but we're not going to come within a country mile of that today with highs in the low 40s (around 5C). The normal maximum for today is 77/25.

Tonight we're actually going to get close to freezing.

And by Wednesday it's going be back in the upper 70s/low 80s (mid 20s) smiley - cdouble

We got down into the low 20s last night. I haven't checked my peonies, but grandma called and said hers were ruined, even though she covered them up.

It's just started raining. Freezing rain. In Texas, in April.

I blame the Labour government.

We had more freezing rain tonight while I was at work - it was building up on the cars outside. It's currently 35F/1.7C at 4am. At this time of the day at this time of the year it should be 56/13.

I WANT MY WEATHER BACK!!!

On the drive home last night the light board I passed said 2C, but that was around 7 pm. I haven't seen the peonies, but Mr B says they look alright. I guess I'll see them tomorrow.

The light board I passed on the way in to work this morning said 35F, that was around quarter to 5. Supposed to get up near 50 today, but if it's anything like yesterday it won't feel like it. The wind chill yesterday morning was 8.

Everyone around here's been acting shocked at the sudden turn in weather so late in the year. I guess either they're not from here, or they have short memories. I remember one year when I was younger school was called off for snow on my birthday - which this year will be next Saturday. I don't ever feel truely safely past winter until May.

Two weeks ago we were running the air conditioning (I usually refuse to turn it on before May, this is the third year in a row I've had to turn it on before then, and the first year ever that I've done it in March).

On the opposite end of the spectrum, the high for broe jr's first birthday was 62 the first week of June. We had planned a barbecue, and although we did cook outdoors, everybody huddled in the garage out of the wind to eat. The year before it was nearly 90 the day we brought him home from the hospital.

Gotta love livin in the Midwest smiley - winkeye

Here are the details from this morning's News 8 Austin weather section front page.

++++++++++

Saturday will go down in history as the coldest April 7th ever in Austin. Here are the records:

Camp Mabry: The low of 34 is a new record. The previous record was 37 in 1971. The high of 50 is a new record for the lowest maximum (high) temperature. The old record was 60 in 1938.

The sleet/ice pellets observed at Mabry is the second latest spring freezing or frozen precipitation event at Mabry. The latest date for a spring frozen/freezing precipitation event is April 11, 1995.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport: The low of 34 is a new record, beating the old record of 35 set in 1971. ABIA also had a high of 50 to set a new record for lowest maximum (high) temperature. Until yesterday, that record was 65 in 1990. And, .69" of an inch of rain Saturday is a new record for April 7. The previous record was .63" in 2002.

Also, the sleet/ice pellets and light snow observed at ABIA Saturday marks the latest date ever with freezing/frozen precipitation. Prior to Saturday, that date had been March 2-3, 1965.

Snow totals included 3.4 inches at Waco and 2 to 4 inches at Copperas Cove.

++++++++++

Waco is only 102 miles north of Austin. That's London to Birmingham. Not far at all.

We had our heat on again last week after running the a/c for a couple of weeks. It was a smidge warmer at mom's near Dallas. Just checked the weather - more rain this week with highs back in the low 70's for the weekend.

I don't think I've ever seen it before... National Weather Service is saying 100% chance of rain tomorrow and tomorrow night. I guess they're *really* sure this time.

We haven't seen the sunny side of 60 in a couple of weeks.

And it looks like I'll have snow for my birthday again. smiley - biggrin

Supposed to be 65 by Monday or Tuesday, though. I'll believe it when I see it.
