Sounds rather ordinary, doesn't it?
Hey, when did I turn into a normal person?
Well, my job has become somewhat less stressful. I am now feeling competent. For better or worse, this means I am being given additional responsibilities. My employer apparently won't allow my stress level to get *too* low.
My college courses are also marching on. As finals approach, I see a storm looming over the horizon. I'm trying to push ahead on homework, but I have a feeling finals will be crushing anyway.
But the best waits for after finals. I'll be in the UK from November 23rd to December 6th. I'm hoping to attend the Glasgow Christmas meet-up. I'll hopefully also be in London for a bit, though the dates aren't set just yet.
The rest of the time, I'll be around Banbury. Pastey and his wife have been kind enough to offer me a place to say. They must be the nicest people I know.

Oi!

I've been largely away for some time now. Thanks to the several people who have written to inquire about me. Unfortunately, I haven't been answering personal email with any reliability either. So my apologies go to those I haven't replied to.
My new job is, quite frankly, horribly stressful.
As I wrote earlier, the product I used to support has been discontinued in favour of a joint agreement with an outside vendor. I've been moved to another department, where I support live video conferences.
Often, my clients are high-level managers and/or techs at large companies. They can be tough to work with. They certainly demand my complete attention. And since I'm still getting used to the technology and the job, my ignorance can frustrate me at times.
Meanwhile, I'm back in school again. My two courses are Critical Approaches to Digital Media (required for my major) and Poetry and Art (fulfilling the requirements for my English minor). It's quite impossible to guess which course is flakier. Similar topics and concepts keep coming up in each, for reasons I can't entirely fathom.
On your average workday, I get up at four in the morning. I get home between six and seven in the evening. On weekends, I engage in a bit of roleplaying fun with friends to blow off steam. And I do lots and lots of homework.
So that's why I haven't been around much. I've just been busy elsewhere. I'll try and do better, but I can't make any promises. I seem to have my hands full, in more ways than I can explain even here. Wish me luck!

If you didn't get a response on a thread we were talking on, that's why. I'll try to catch up when I return.

The more things change...
Posted Jul 26, 2001
Well, the news came a little while ago that my company has decided to stop hosting webcasts. This is the product I support and which I helped to design and test, so there is a little sadness there.
But I honestly understand why it's happening. Money is tight in the telecommunications world right now, and there's just no way to complete the initial plans to expand the service into a full-featured product. We can't afford the programmers to do so. Instead, we've found a vendor who can offer our customers all the features they want right now. We'll form a partnership, and my job will end once the transition period is over.
At the end of August or early September, I'll be transferred to another office division about 15 miles away. I'll be part of a growing team of folks who run video conferences. I'll learn a bunch more about available technologies, and will probably enjoy the renewed chance to use my brain. They've even agreed to work with my shifting school schedule.
There was only one real surprise. When I found about about my product ending, my assumption was that I would finally move away from my ex. It's felt uncomfortable working beside him each day, though we remain friends.
Instead, I've found that his product has been yanked as well. He's now going to the same place I am.
It's not that I don't want to see him. It's just that I'd like to be able to choose the time and place. It's only natural to want a little distance at this time. And I thought I was going to get it. I really did.
Oh, well. There will be a period of about a month after he leaves where I will remain. That will have to do for now.
