I've been wanting a bit of fun for a long time, and even knowing that I'm going to feel better in a couple of weeks makes me relax just a bit. And chatting to you about computers, what better way to spend a friday night, huh?

After adding e-invoicing in accounts receivable *and* pretty much the same thing in accounts payable we're now pretty close at reaching the point of no return - that is, how much more can the system take before it crashes?

We've had some pretty narrow escapes lately (back-up not w*rking, processes locked, printer queues lining up like you wouldn't believe) - and I'm busy just trying to get it to w*rk and leaving everything else to be 'dealt with later'.

New server needed - waiting for a decision from our IT department who don't seem to realise that without a smoothly w*rking financial system, the bigwigs will *not* have the slightest idea of profits or losses.

Well, guess what? The very-far-into-the-future head of our IT department quit (probably because no one was able to follow him) and now it's back to the stone age again... *sighs*

So you don't want the red, blue and green smiley - biro's?

Green?

I don't do economy, mind. Green would be for the fun stuff that is within deadlines. Like closed deviations and approved reports...

Ti, I would advise you to inform the board of directors, not just the IT heads.

Systems are essential. And people to run the upgrade project.

Heavens, no!smiley - yikes

I'll have you know, young lady, that when I first started w*rking in the hotel business, all the hotel guest expenses were written down on small cardboard cards and at the day of departure the sums were punched into a cash register, producing a receipt for the guest.

Oh, and I started out as a switchboard operator, with a switchboard that looked a lot like this smiley - senior

What is the "No" about?

smiley - coolsmiley - geek glasses! There must have been a bit of skill needed to run that switchboard. I'm awed.

Lil's pens, that's what - you posted while I was composing my reply to her, Milla

The elder operator who taught me had a system: to always start with the pair of cords that were at each end of the board and working her way towards the middle.

I never understood why until one day I ran out of cords!smiley - yikes I had used them all up without noticing, and the board was blinking furiously.

As soon as someone hung up I grabbed the cords and used them to reply either 'all outgoing lines are busy right now, please try again later' or 'all ingoing lines...' trying to sound like an answering machine to avoid getting shouted at smiley - brave I was very young and easily intimated...
