'Are periods different in Sweden?'

Enough already!

Periods are the same all over the world - some hardly notice them, some suffer rather badly.

I've seen several comments like Graham Norton's on the net - people who find it hard to believe you can actually throw up because of period pains.

Well, you'd better believe it - and I speak from first hand experience!

'Why didn't she take pain killers?' is another common comment.

Well, guess how many times I've taken the last pill in my bag and forgotten to refill? Guess how many times I've been nowhere near a pharmacy when the pains have started? And guess what happens if you take the pill once the pain is really roaring? It has no effect at all!

Without pain killers, I would throw up each and every time I have my period.

What am I talking about? The video clip that must have been viewed by tens of thousands of people by now, of poor Eva Nazemson. You'll find it on YouTube, among other places...

My missus has bad najjers, sometimes to that point of vomiting and pain killers don't work very well either, so locking her away in the coal celler, is the only way! She can't do too much damage to the rest of us in there! I allways feel for the spiders too, but they got 8 legs and able to run fast, so.................

The bad thing about painkillers is that they make blood more.. liquid. Or however it would be in English.
Coincidentally we had an article in the news portal today about curing menstrual pain. Some Australian study shows that the most effective turned out to be Chinese herbal medicines.

The last thing one feels like doing, when in the grips of those cramps, is hard exercise - but it works. There's something about the release of endorphins and their effect on muscle fibres.

... of course, what one really wants to do is lie in a darkened room with a hot-water-bottle clutched to one's belly

Acupuncture is said to help also. I never found that to be the case, but we all react differently.

Everyone seems to dread menopause. I am soooooooooo glad to be finished with it. The menopause itself wasn't half as bad as I thought it would be and now it's absolutely fabulous not to have to worry about it all every month.

TENS - transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation

It's basically a couple of wee electrodes attached to a box powered by a couple of AA batteries.
You stick the pads onto whichever part is giving problems and a small electrical current interferes with the normal transmission of messages along your nerve pathways - so the message doesn't get sent to the brain, which is where the Ouch message is processed.

I use a TENS machine for the ghastly pain my rheumatoid arthritis sometimes visits upon me. I can't say it gives total analgesia - but it does make the pain easier to cope with.

Acupuncture seems to depend quite a lot on the skill of the person applying it. I was given it by two different people - the first made no difference but the second, who was a wee bit more aggressive with the needles, was more effective.

my ex used to have horrible pains till i read an article about some new medicin against arthritis that seemed to help a lot of women

what helped her most was having three kids though (but i know that doesn't help just every woman - in particular not those who don't want to have kids)

I find the best analgesic for me is Naproxim Sodium. That is the generic name for Aleve. It works for twelve hours, which means I can get a good night's sleep without getting up to re-dose.

Menopause... bring it on!
