Sho - employed again! Started conversation Mar 18, 2014
... I've been mentally preparing myself for a couple of weeks because this week is Promotion Announcement Week. I've been practicing smiling and graciously saying "congratulations, you deserve it, well done" without gritting my teeth.
Not that I've been successful so I've been refreshing my email inbox over the last 2 days ready to pack up and run home shouting something vague about having an essay to finish and getting rid of some of my overtime.
But the mail arrived and you could have knocked me down with a feather but I have now reached the dizzy heights of Manager.
and since we're in Germany that means those of us who made it through the rounds of promotion interviews and self reflections (that I did not even half-heartedly because I'M sick to the back teeth of it) will have to bring and for the office next week.

Congratulations! Now you can stop whining about how overworked and underappreciated you are and start whining about being overworked with too much responsibility.
You've really earned this.(You should be able to find something to celebrate with in that lot!)

Congratulations, you deserve it, well done.
(Sorry, it was too tempting. )
It's true, though, you do deserve it.

and again, thanks all!
As far as I know there are no perks, no corner office, no car, no phone and no extra money.
I do get new business cards...

Congratulations. I picked a good time to borrow a computer. Now do you get to exact revenge on the idiots you have wanted to use the slapping hand on all this time? (Personally I would consider that a perk.)

If there are no perks and no pay rise I'd consider it at best a lateral move. But if they've moved you "up" to management for the same pay, I'd be suspicious that they're just trying to get more work/responsibility from you for nothing.
Of course, this is coming from someone with a different work environment in general. Texas is a "right to work" state so there are few controls on how poorly employers can treat their workers. I was offered a "promotion" which basically would have me working on salary rather than on hourly wages for no actual increase. I'd actually have made less as I know that no matter how much the boss was insisting I wouldn't have to work overtime I would definitely be working just as much or more overtime yet only getting paid my base salary. When they made this offer it was normal for me to work 50 hours per week and I knew they weren't planning on hiring anyone to make up the work. I counter offered what would have been the equivalent of my normal 50 hour week plus 10 percent. They refused that so I just stayed on my hourly rate.
