Sho - employed again!

Although I have spent most of my life in Germany, and with the exception of about 2 years in the 60s, I have never owned (nor worn) a Dirndl. But for the last few years at work we've suggested that on the last (dress down) Friday in September we wear clothing in an Oktober-fest-stylee and hit the town after work.

This year it seems we're really going to manage it. So today I got myself a Dirndl. And even though one of the women in the office said "don't forget to get a push-up bra to go under it" I decided not to. Probably better all round that way. smiley - bigeyes

smiley - chef the killjoy declined to get some lederhosen. Killjoy!

Quite frankly I never liked dirndls much. And Lederhosen actually give me the creeps. Probably due to me growing up in the northern part of Germany. There is this love hate relationship between North and South (which you are probably aware of).

But you make any dress look lovely, dear smiley - winkeye

just saw HI's comment smiley - loveblush

I, too, grew up in the north of Germany so Oktober fest and the trachten-kleider just passed us by. But what I've noticed is that in a Hallmark inventing reasons for people to buy cards kind of way, the Oktoberfest - and many related consumer items - is spreading gradually further and further north.

Bavarian theme pubs, pretty much in the stylee of Irish pubs, are also very popular outside of that state. It's always fun to go and eat sausage and drink a good weizenbier now and again.

That all guys in Lederhosen are crypto-Nazis - or worse - is of course a nasty stereotype. I went to München once - in the fall of 1992 - and only met nice people there. When one of us gloated about us being the European champions I feared the worst - but was only told: "We've got nothing against the Danes - apart from them winning the European Championship".

But you'll never see me in a pair of Lederhosen! A dirndl, perhaps, but Lederhosen? No! smiley - biggrin

I found a Dirndl in a second hand store, it fit, and I had to buy it! Only €20. It doesn't fit any longer, sadly... smiley - puff
And a while ago, I went to a website looking for ballgowns for the daughter, but since then, I keep getting google ads for their "Bavarian Princess" line of dresses - dirndls, but in bright candy colours and glitzy satin fabrics. Gives a weird nightclub impression smiley - laugh

I'm half German. Mum was born in Hamburg, which is about as 'North' as you can get. Having said that, I've always liked dirndls and I owned one for some years. Hubby loved me wearing it, especially with a bra with good 'lift'. Unfortunately it stopped fitting me years ago, so I had to let it go.

I know that older (and larger!) women wear them in Germany but, with a half-century staring me in the face, I think my dirndl days are over.smiley - ermsmiley - sadface

I'll be 50 this year and I just don't worry about that (I got a knee-length one though, rather than the sexy mini-type ones.

And uplift bras are the least of my requirements smiley - bigeyessmiley - winkeye

now what I need to decide is about tights and shoes-boots.

I could wear walking boots and socks, or those high-heeled wakling-boot-stylee shoes and socks or socks/tights combo
or (since mine is a magenta bodice with a black/white gingham skirt and black apron, normal tights (or black or grey) with my steampunk type booties. (I think I'll go for that one...)
