Well, strictly speaking the bet was as that Unc would be too blotto to make it home. In good faith, I was prepared to pay up once we reached the end of the evening and he was still stone-cold sober.
Of course, there remains the possibility that once I'd handed over the tenner he promptly adjourned to another hostelry and got himself totally bladdered (which I reckon would still leave him about £8 in profit) and spent the night in his customary gutter...

That's what the telephone company means
when it tells you to hit the pound sign.
Since Americans don't usually use English
currency, it stands to reason that American
computer makers would not put the symbol
for the British pound on computer keyboards.
I wish they would put the main H2G2
smileys on my keyboard, but they haven't
dpne that either.
