If you look at the date on the right of that page, you'll see that it was 19 August 2002. Brunel definitely came in after the BBC took over.

And this is a bad thing, the BBC continuing to develop the site?

I'm not saying that I think Brunel is a bad thing - nor that I think that the BBC should stop developing the site.
I just think a bit of consideration for Goo users rather than giving me the impression they think we're resistant to change dinosaurs who count for squat, would be nice.

at least we know they're working on it
I will bear being in Brunel 'coz I lurve the new smileys - tried to in Goo this morning and all I saw was . where the new smiley should be so I might be here a while longer
Best comment I saw this morning was:
What's this?--->
Answer: A galaxy, far, far away!
(That joke will be lost on Goo die-hards)

Indeed.
When you got the secret smiley there were lots of posts saying how brilliant 'it' was and how 'it look fantastic, why didn't I think of 'that!',
That whole conversation was nonsensical - it was only after I then went to the new smileys page and found the explanation about Goo that I fell in.

Maybe they just uploaded the Goo smileys too small, so they look like dots
I actually prefer the goo version of a few of them; they look better against a dark background!

That idea reminds me a bit of the beginning of the Men in Black film, where the alien space ship lands, looking terrifying and ready for war, and a dog comes and eats it up!

Oh yes, so it was, now you mention it! Well, as long as no dogs eat the smilies, we'll be OK.
Oh - and as for Gnomon correcting me about Brunel being introduced in 2002, he was right. That did seem a bit soon after the Alabaster and I did wonder myself, at the time.

i think so too, mala
i like the new smileys - as well as the older ones (i've been around long enough to see three batches now - i think )
some smileys may look better on a dark background, others on a lighter one
so what?
i am happy using alabaster. best for me eye. others may find goo easier on their eyes
some of my colleagues can't understand how i can w*rk while listening to loud music. i can't understand how they can w*rk without
live & let live
i do hope however that things will be fixed so all smileys will be visible in all three skins (there are only three yet, no?)

Yes, I thought so. I don't see why people form such strong factions, anyway. I use Brunel because I find it easiest to navigate - which is probably because it was the default skin when I joined. I could probably switch if I wanted to - it would be like having switched from IE to Opera - but I just don't see a reason to do so.
From what I've read, Brunel has addressed some issues that were present in previous skins, and is more or less the "latest version".

I only remain attached to Goo because I'm used to it and I can't find anything in the other skins.
Plus I find the blue background more restful for my eyes.

oh and I wish I could have loud music at work. It might drown out the screams of Those Who Annoy Me Greatly With Their Idiocy.
