GB, if you put &scale=1.58 at the end of that URL, you don't have to zoom out twice.

That's been posted at the forum as a blue pretzel (by an American, I presume)
North winds blow! South winds blow! Kill the rabbit! Kill the rabbit!
(chew, chew) Kill the rabbit?
I loved the one where BB wound up the Maestro and he got madder and madder
Should I write a Bugs Bunny journal, what do you think Gnomon?

Oh yes, we're on second helpings now. At least. It's a question I will ask the Zookeepers (are we getting any fresh pictures) and will let you know their reply.

There's my question, although you probably have to be a member of the forum to view it, if you're not, I'll let you know their response.

Say, Gnomon - here's another question. Is enough information included with these photos to know how far away they are? ie, how far into the past we're looking. I'm not familiar enough with the terms as they are abbreviated to know.

Me neither, all the data looks Greek to me
I've learned how to post images on the forum thoughand now I'm teaching some of the newbies how to do so

The ELRedShift value z is what you want for distance, emission line red shift.
The distance is about z times 14000 million light years.

I hope you reported that to the team!
here's one to scare pailaway, two colliding galaxies: http://cas.sdss.org/astro/en/tools/chart/chart.asp?ra=179.20207965&dec=61.44153772

Oooh
I mean
Ok, so lets try out Zube's information on this one. The value of 'z' is 0.049 and we would times that by 14,000 million light years - But, 14,000 million years is about the age of the universe, right? So, we could also say that we are seeing this object as it was 4.9% of the age of the universe ago. Dang!
Here's a picture of someone holding a bowling ball at about 12.5% of the age of the universe ago.

I wonder if they hit anything?
Hey, wait a minute could this could also explain colliding galaxys?

GB, I don't think those galaxies are colliding. They just happen to be aligned from our point of view. If they were really close, the gravity between them would have pulled them out of shape.
