So, chocolate Is ok then

The mere possibility of giving up chocolate reminds me of this joke that i've had to tweak a little for the occasion:

This guy's wife takes him to the doctor to see what's wrong with him. After a whole battery of tests and while the doctor is poring over the results, the wife asks, 'so, how's he going to be, doc?'

The doc says, 'Well, he's going to have to give up chocolate or he'll die.'

She starts to weep.

The guy asks his wife, 'What's the doc say?'

The wife sniffles, 'He says you're going to die.'

GB, I collected these recipes back when I was doing WW and they were pushing all that fiber...am I bad to tell you about these? Probably, but then, I've already got my asbestos undies for when I have to start paying for my sins. smiley - winkeye

Chocolate and Peanut Butter Fiber Cookies
Makes 6 servings, 1 point, and about 75 calories

1 cup (~235) Fiber One* cereal
1 1 5/8 oz (44 g) milk or dark chocolate candy bar
4 tbsp (60 ml) 85% less fat peanut butter (or another reduced fat peanut butter, but the point value will vary a bit)

Melt the chocolate bar and peanut butter in microwave until smooth (try it every 30 seconds; don't let it burn)
Stir the melted chocolate and peanut butter, until mixed.
Add cereal and gently fold in until coated.
Drop on foil or parchment paper, making 6 "cookies".
Freeze for 30 minutes then put in a baggie and refrigerate.

And of course, there's these -- from WW, too, I think, or the bsck of the Fiber One box...

Chocolate Haystacks Makes 24 pieces (note: I think one serving is 4 of these things)

Think of these as essentially chocolate-coated fiber. 1 pt for those WW types...

Ingredients:

12 oz chocolate chips
Fiber One* cereal, about eight ounces by weight

(alternatively... well, I don't know any other cereals that might work with this recipe. Fiber One is pure bran held together with a minimal amount of fat. Anything answering to this description would work.)

Melt the chips in a microwave-safe large glass bowl in the microwave. Add the Fiber One cerealand stir until the cereal pieces are coated with melted chocolate. Press the mixture into twenty four mini muffin cups, or divide the mixture into twenty four portions. Allow time to cool and harden.

If you are a stickler about chocolate appearance, you may wish to temper the chocolate.

The average adult should consume 22 grams of fiber per day, and each one of these gems provides a little more than 25% of that RDA. Chocolate is rich in antioxidants and is the best natural source of magnesium. Really, you can't afford NOT to eat these.

*Fiber One is another kind of high fiber-bran cereal, like little sticks, sort of. Each of these is about 80 calories, 4 grams of fat and 6 grams or so of fiber.

Now there's no excuse not to eat this stuff...eventualy, you can cut back on the chocolate, and you'll be eating just the fiber!

Yeah, right.

How much fibre are you actually supposed to eat? Might you be able to "get away with" simply eating wholemeal bread, baked potatoes with skins on, brown rice instead of white etc (if you aren't already doing so of course)

If you already like fruit & veg, that's obviously good!If you want any high fibre vegetarian recipes, let me know.

A friend of mine way back who had this used to have a drink called (i think) Fybogel; apparently it didn't taste bad, just like orange juice with bits in!

I *really* appreciate all this, thanks SC and Terri smiley - smiley
I'll get to work making myself a diet sheet, but not todaysmiley - racket1

I've started on Bran Flakes and pretending they're cornflakes, they're actually not bad!smiley - biggrin

The All Bransmiley - yuk that SC mentions I can't even think about that, never mind imagine putting it in my mouth never mind daubed in smiley - choc which covers a multitude of sins. I have tried it before and life is too short to not enjoy your food.

My daughter dropped off her son for the day yesterday and after she'd done her food shopping gave me a box of "fibre tablets" which she'd found in Tescos, hmmm, well I'll try anything once.

I see that weet-bix (Oz's version of weetabix) has the variant bran-bix.

This was found at the site of the World Wide Worshippers of Weetabix:
http://www.johnbreslin.com/blog/2000/04/30/overview-weetabix/

They warn to beware of imitations though. smiley - laugh

btw, there was an american company that marketed the 'uneeda biscuit' brand. I think the weetabix people are missing the boat and should introduce 'wannabix'.

I don't like All-Bran much, Fiber One is a *little* better; however, Bran-a-bix (or whatever it's called!) sounds like a bowl-sized haystack -- I'm not sure even chocolate would help! smiley - laugh
