Hi GB.

A39727669
A39727678

As you, Gnomon and Shagbark are regularly contributing constellation entries to PR at the moment, when these are ready (soonish), do you want me to bung them all into PR at once or would you prefer that I dripped them in one at a time?

Sextans

BTW I forgot to mention, in Sextans, 1st para you have:

>and it is the gradient of a daylight meteor shower<

I think that should be ‘radiant’ not gradient.

Corvus

Post 349

Deek

It's probably going a bit too far off topic but if you wanted any other subject matter for 'Corvus the Crow' you could look up the 'Jim Crow' squadrons of WW2 for a mention. It's an interesting subject that could make an EG entry in its own right.

APOD Astronomy Course

Post 353

Deek

Possibly something for your next 'Babe Among the Stars'.

Have you noticed during this last weeks APOD blurb there's a link to a free astronomy course taught by an APOD editor.

I haven't gone into it fully yet but it may be worth exploring. I'm not sure if you need an iPod to do it though?

Hydrus

Post 354

Galaxy Babe - eclectic editor

Hi Deke,
My next column will be October diary dates and birthdays, anniversaries, etc. There's been a change request by the chief ed. I'll look into it for the first one in October thoughsmiley - ta

Would you do me a favour, if you have time, review Hydrus in PR? I submitted it over a week ago and there's not been one single comment smiley - sadface
The Eds are desperately short of entries, so if it gets commented upon it can be picked because it's already passed incubation.

Thanks Deke smiley - smiley

I'll have to return it so the Eds can "final polish" today, but if there's anything you disagree with I can fix it when it's gone livesmiley - cheers

I'm glad you got this one to sub. Thanks, it looks fine to me. Send it off when you're ready.

It looks as if the final lap for constellations has been entered, and PR entries are looking a bit thin on the ground. What do you think is likely to happen when they're finished?

I'm worried sick, actually.
This banning of under-16s has led to a walk-off of several Researchers including Gnomon, lots of people had left already and we're getting no influx of new writers, I'm not sure the EG will survive.

I didn't realise Gnomon had left.

Have others left because of the under 16 rule?

I did think there had been quite a few leaving over the past year without being replaced by new blood. That was why I thought Skankyrich's Hard core group was such a good thing. But that lost direction too.

Perhaps H2 has run its course.

Yes that was a great idea and one I threw myself into with gusto, only to be summarily slapped down F8622433?thread=5832707 - when I complained about that comment I was told to "grow up" (by the person who posted it). I don't expect to be molly-coddled or treated "with fluff" or given any special treatment, I just ask for (mutual) respect.

The Entry of the Month was a great idea, but have you read A40708190 <>

<> U94986 that's Mina's PS, and here's her last journal: F35977?thread=5903107

The bad feeling is spreading and I have my own thoughts on the under-16 ruling but I am not going to publish them here smiley - lurk <> indeed.

Oh!
Quite clearly there’s things going on that I didn’t have an inkling about. And yes, that comment was uncalled for.

Neither was I aware that the EotM thing was a vote. How embarrassing, especially as I got one.I thought it was just something bestowed by the editors.

Half the time I don’t really know what to make of researchers ‘leaving’ because I’ve always thought that they usually turn up again at some point. But there’s been a few too many lately and more to the point, others withdrawing their goodwill and stopping writing.

Trouble is that H2 has relied on the usual suspects for too long and as far as I’ve seen, never really gone out of its way to encourage new blood to write for the Guide. I thought that the Hard Core writers had run out of steam after the FM/FM debacle. Perhaps it needs a bit of rejuvenation, but it should only ever have been a stop-gap measure while a better approach was found.

Clearly they are going to have to take a different approach and put the Guide first and the so-called ‘community’ second. If that doesn’t happen then I think it probably will be the end of the road when the Beeb perceive that there isn’t sufficient interest in H2 except as a chatroom.
