Today 11 C., blue sky with plenty of sunshine thanks to westerly winds coming in from over sea bringing in warmer air from the Atlantic and the Gulf Stream <>.
Patience! Your will arrive.
(It's probably a bit late due to bad weather conditions Central Europe.)

Ah, that's just great! How much snow is there now?
Let me check the thermometer, 11 degrees, sea and land covered in a metallic coloured grey duvet holding a promise of snow and a gentle soft breeze is coming from the west.
Now, the winter of 1961-1962 must have been a really good winter! Wasn't the Baltic frozen which made it possible to walk from Finland to Europe?

Completely frozen it was 1946/47 the last time. In 2002 we had a good chance too but unfortunately they broke the ice.
Atm we have something like 1cm snow. Almost nothing. Very unusual. But it's enough to keep it lighter and not so gloomy. Tomorrow or the day after rain is expected again.

The wind has picked up. I can hear it howling. It's still coming from the West, I think. I'll check in a second when I take out the dog for a walk.
I'm silly to expect snow with westerly winds, really. We need a wind coming from the East. Your package might arrive this weekend. The weather forecast for this weekend predicts snow.
So 1946/47 was the last time the Baltic got frozen? Pity that in 2002 the ice got broken ... I guess the show must go on for the shipping trade.
My stepmum likes to talk about the winter of 61/62. Her son was born in February '62 and it must have been a very hard winter. People were skating on the IJsselmeer, the former Souther Sea, and going for walks to one of the islands.
I myself remember the winter of 1995/1996. My Benjamin Ficus froze to death that winter. One night I woke up because of a loud noise. The next morning I saw that the antique mirror of the clothes closet had burst into two pieces. I cannot sleep with the windows closed, so we wore nightcaps in bed. I had this particular old fashioned style cap with a long flap made of fleece cloth.

Fascinating!
2002 we had a really hard winter with temperature down to -35C or so. And the winter started about 2-3 months too early, snow came down in the beginning of October. But the sea is used by all kind of ship including oil tankers, passenger boats (remember Estonia sunk?) and all others. It's not only about Estonia and Finland but also St.Petersburg and half of Russia.

Interesting No, not really. I seem to have a problem with short-term memory. I cannot remember the winter of 2002. In fact I don't remember 2002 at all! What was I doing that year? Oh dear, here I am groping in the dark. It'll come back to me.
Today a clear sky, but chilly.

We had a lot of snow last night, so actally everything looks fluffy and all.
In my life 2002 was a year of some imortance. One of Those Years. And I was on my first h2g2 meet-up in spring 2002.

In Denmark. And I absolutely liked it. It was a small meet that lasted for couple days. And with some luck I'll go to Danish meet-up this year, too.

Actually it took place in Esbjerg. But I spent a day in Copenhagen with another h2g2er who hosted me. That was fabulous!

I remember Esbjerg. From there we took the boat to visit the island of Fanö. The North Sea really becomes a sea the more north one goes ... it's really impressive up there.
I never made it to Copenhagen . We got stuck on Fyn, due to lack of funds and the courage to press on. The idea was to hop from one island to the other. Take the boat to Aerö, then visit Langeland, next stop Lolland and finally Sjaelland and Copenhagen.
Tell me, how was it!!

Copenhagen? I *love* this town! It's kinda slow and floating, very friendly and also nice for sightseeing. As about the meet you can read it from A726491
And btw, there's going to be another meet in April 2005 in Copenhagen.

Very suspicious, indeed!
Nice report on the meeting.
So you hitchhiked all the way from Estonia. That must have been quite a trip.
What an enterprise!
