Hi Monsy
Arwen Posted Mar 28, 2000
Cheers for the message, I had a quick look at your home page (fab animation!) and I'll definitely go back again soon. I appreciate the tips, as I'm pretty new to the web as well as h2g2 and I'm still kind of blundering about finding good sites only by accident.
But I'm digressing. Nice to have such a warm welcome so soon.

As usual, Monsy came a few minutes before me. I have to admit she welcomes people magnificently. I would just like to add that I think h2g2 needs some solid poetry. I mean, everyone tries to write exceptional things, but , as Baudelaire said when he explained why he prefered to write sonnets, it is important for the correspondancies created by the words to be part of a constant structure. Some kind of structure (sort of a priori) does exist here, but it would be a good idea to link it (and to build it with) preexistant ones.

Hi Arwen. This may be the only sane comment you get from me so make the most of it. My home page isn't as exotic as most but there's some weird and wonderful threads starting or being interrupted there. Welcome to h2g2.

Well, though it seems a moot point (so many of the ACEs are here already) I wanted to make sure that you had a link to the ACEs homepage http://www.h2g2.com/A214796
And if no one explained it above, ACEs = Assistant Community Editors

Hi Arwen, I saw the name and had to drop by, I recognize it from somewhere but am drawing a complete blank at the moment. For some reason Tolkien pops into my head but I can never be sure, I read way too much stuff like that in the past.
Anyway, welcome again, I'm afraid most of my literary experience is pretty mainstream except maybe for Umberto Eco...loved Focault's Pendulum, but that's as deep as I get.

Arwen Posted Apr 1, 2000
Well done, Tolkien indeed. Of course, not being the stand-offish type I don't insist on being called Lady Arwen (though you can if you wish!. Never managed to read any Eco, except for one of his literary essays, and that was because I had to, however, I did enjoy the film of The Name of the Rose, but I suspect that was more for shallow Sean Connery reasons.

I thought so but wasn't sure... as I said its been years.
The Name of the Rose was an excellent read and the film was actually a pretty fair adaptation of his book. Eco is the only author I know who can spend two and a half pages describing the doorway to a church and keep you interested. Amazing stuff.

Irving Washington - Gone Writing Posted Apr 1, 2000
Was that the one about the Inquisition? Sean Connery has been in plenty of movies...

BluesDog Posted Apr 1, 2000
Sort of, it takes place in an Italian monastary. Connery plays a Franciscan monk, with a young apprentice, who is travelling to Rome but he gets caught up in the investigation of a bunch of murders taking place in the monastary. There's quite a bit of talk of witches and the devil possessing people, as I recall the Inquisition stuff comes towards the end.
