Hi Ming. Yep, I'm an ACE apparenlty, and I'm here to welcome you the guide, and to just generally chat and find out who you are.
So, who are you?
Okay, okay...
Ming Mang Posted Apr 21, 2000
Well, I'm me...Ask Jenny, she knows me.
Hello Bluebottle, who are you?
Okay, okay...
Bluebottle Posted Apr 21, 2000
I am me.
I am also very lazy, and so I made a "Who I am" page at:
http://www.h2g2.com/A272521
to tell people who I am. I am also the first person to have said "hi" to Jenny, which is quite a nice thing.
So, what hobbies do we have in common?
Okay, okay...
Ming Mang Posted Apr 21, 2000
Well... I also like Douglas Adams (surprise surprise), I like the colour blue (but not as much as my favourite colour, which is an indigo-y-violet-y-sort-of-colour, we both live in the SE corner of Britain, we both play musical instruments (I play flute and BTW I have a friend who also plays the bugle in Boys Brigade but she's not a boy), I also like Red Dwarf and that's all I can remember...
Very cool that you were first to say 'hi' to Jenny, she's the person who told me about h2g2 and once we got connected forced me to join. And I think all your smileys are incredibly cool!
Okay, okay...
Bluebottle Posted Apr 22, 2000
Hmmm... Being colour-blind I tend to think of things as simple colours like "red", "blue", "pink", "orange", "green", "brown", "yellow", "white", "black", "grey" with either dark or light varieties. I've not actually worked out what Violet or Indigo are, sorry.
Where abouts in England do you live? I like the South Coast, but as that's where I've been all my life, I tend to be a little biased.
Jenny did the right thing by forcing you to join, and believe me, you won't regret it! Soon enough you'll be adding more and more time to H2G2, and having more and more fun - it's too addictive for words.
Okay, okay...
Ming Mang Posted Apr 23, 2000
I know. I've been addicted for 4 weeks already...
I live in a small town in West Sussex that's quite near the small town in West Sussex that Jenny lives in. But her town is smaller.
Sorry about the colour, then. To make it simplar, it's a variation of purple.
And, BTW, your name seems to have grown again. I'd watch it if I were you...
Okay, okay...
Bluebottle Posted Apr 24, 2000
My name seems to be quite independant - it grows and shrinks of it's own accord, I really can't control it.
Okay, okay...
Ming Mang Posted Apr 24, 2000
Well, just so long as it keeps the 'Bluebottle' bit I suppose...
Okay, okay...
Bluebottle Posted Apr 24, 2000
Yes, it will always keep the "Bluebottle" bit - afterall, that's who I am. Without being Bluebottle, I couldn't do my logo. Do you have a logo at all?
<BB<
Okay, okay...
Ming Mang Posted Apr 25, 2000
Nope.
I suppose I could do something like: *M* or <M< or |M| or ¦M¦ or something...
Okay, okay...
Bluebottle Posted Apr 25, 2000
You could. It's up to you, really. You don't need them nowadays - but back when they gave you the message you were replying to, but not the name, it was handy if people had signituers to save confusion.
Are you merciless?
Okay, okay...
Ming Mang Posted Apr 25, 2000
Merciless? No, I don't think so. What is all this 'Ming the Merciless' about? 'Cos it's cropped up before and I still have no idea what everyone's going on about...
Mmm, a signature would have been a very good idea...but as you don't really need them now I probably won't bother. I tried once to put a at the bottom of every message I wrote. It did not last long...
Maybe I'll try ¦M¦, though.
¦M¦
Okay, okay...
Bluebottle Posted Apr 26, 2000
"Ming the Merciless" was the bad guy in the "Flash Gorden" stories. Essentially he was an Emperor, and did various Bad Emperor stuff, I don't really know the story that well, there are so many different versions of it!
As for signatures, I very rarely do mine. Well, I do when I'm welcoming someone, or I want to remind someone that I wrote it, and not someone else, but not that often. I enjoy having the choice of whether to or not,
Okay, okay...
Ming Mang Posted Apr 27, 2000
Ah, I understand (mostly) now! Ming the Merciless an Emperor who did Bad Emperor stuff. No, I'm nothing like that. I really don't have the right kind of mind to do Bad Emperor stuff, so everyone here's quite safe (from me, anyway)... Thank you most sincerely and lots and lots for clearing that for me...
Yeah, since my last posting here I've only remembered to do my signature once. So I'll rectify that now!
¦M¦
Okay, okay...
Bluebottle Posted Apr 28, 2000
Well, I'm sure that no-one thinks that you are a Bad Emperor, and I've never seen you do any Bad Emperor stuff, so I'm glad we're all safe. So why did you chose the name Ming (or is it your name?) Let me know!
Signitures - I like yours, it's cool and unique, simple too. But as it is your signature, it is up to you how much you use it. Just like the , and things.
Okay, okay...
Ming Mang Posted Apr 28, 2000
I'm Ming not 'cos it's my real name (it's not) but because of a meaningless saying of mine; 'Ming Mang' which I made up at some undeterminable point in time but quite recently and thought that it would be cool to use it for my nickname. It's not just for h2g2 though, it's my Internet name...
You like my signature? Cool! I think yours is cool too, but it reminds me of a fish. (which isn't really anything to do with anything).
But as you say, it's up to me how much I use it, so I'll probably forget all about it...
¦M¦
Okay, okay...
Bluebottle Posted Apr 29, 2000
Well then, "Ming" is a good nickname to have, then, and you have a good reason to have it. ALthough some may recommend that you may be expected to do some research on Ming the Merciless, as some people may still get confused.
So, how are you finding H2G2 so far? You seem to be on more than Jenny at the moment
Okay, okay...
Ming Mang Posted May 1, 2000
Well, I suppose I might... I have put an explanation on my page to the effect that neither I nor my name has anything to do with fictional emperors such as Ming the Merciless. Just whether people will read it or not is quite doubtful...
Yeah, I'm addicted you see...
¦M¦
Okay, okay...
Bluebottle Posted May 1, 2000
Well, that will solve confusion for those who read it - it'll be a good way to see who bothers to come to your page and reads it.
I definately understand about how easy it is to be addicted - it happened to me!
<BB<
You seem to be using your signiture a lot.
Okay, okay...
Ming Mang Posted May 1, 2000
Yeah... Actually, I've been surprised at the number of people who have bothered to come on my page... One of which I'd never actually spoken to before!!! I was very chuffed about that...sad I know but it made me feel happy...
Still addicted?
¦M¦
Yes, I do seem to be. Strange.
