I'm sure the schools in Hawaii and Jamaica have never
been closed because of snow. However, hurricanes and
typhoons might have been a different story.
There's *something* that can come along and make
things tough for everybody.

to the other extreme, we've also had school days called off or cut short for excessive heat as well. not so often anymore as most of the schools are air conditioned - but not all of them.

growing up none of the schools i went to were air conditioned. any new schools they build are, of course... the school district i was in had two air conditioned schools (out of 11 or 12) and they were both on the other side of the district. the offices of all the schools were air conditioned, and as the libraries became computerized they were too. any computer labs that were created automatically had air conditioning.
when my son started kindergarten the principal told us they were in the process of installing air conditioning in the elementary school and that it would be done by the following spring. three years later only half the building is air conditioned and i don't know if they have plans to finish.

cat, what is a one (a grade?) and what instrument were you playing? congratulations!

well, a one is a score on a scale of one to five, one being the highest.
I was playing violin, so it's almost a miracle I got a one since I'm a violist,(viola player)
Thanks

OOO.. fun stuff... solo and ensemble!???
Don't let hubris get you... it got me my senior year, when I thought I could be funny in front of a judge. I dunno what it was. I made a non-chalant comment about my reed (oboe). It was also the first year my mother didn't accompany me, and that might've had a lot to do with it.
::sigh::
