'Chakras' are traditional mnemonics for the endocrine system.

When the kundalini (or caduceus, same thing, synonyms) is superimposed on the torso, the chakras are the the spaces enclosed between crossings of the twin serpents.

The twin serpents represent the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, the staff the spinal column, the knob on top of the staff, the brain.

I'm not sure I want to think of my nervous systems as serpents. smiley - yuk

The world has a lot of belief systems that arose out of idiosyncratic conceptions hundreds or even thousands of years ago. They were developed for contexts that ceased to exist many years ago, but people just couldn't let go of them as conditions changed again and again (and are still changing). If change is the only constant, why aren't we taking the hint? smiley - cross

"belief systems" of all kinds (and no disrespect to anyone) are just a form of brainwashing.
Science plus medical advances etc and our understanding of the universe are now changing many views on "outdated modes of ancient thought)

I follow the new findings regularly. I treat them with a small amount of skepticism, though. How did they come to their new conclusions? Were their methods scientifically valid?

The allusion to serpents may have been a way of relating the potency of hormones to the venom of serpents.

Did the people who devised then concept of chakras know about hormones?

Spirit animals

Post 52

Terran

I don't know about hormones, but each chakra aligns to a gland in the body - so they knew something of the way the body works

Well, that's better than Chi lines and subluxations, I suppose.

Do chakras interact with feng shui and if so what are the ramifications? smiley - zen

The two sets of beliefs are separated by the Himalayas.

I could tell you, but I'd have to put a SEP field around you afterwards.

(Oh, all right, I'll tell: many mountain chains are compared to backbones, so the Himalayas would be the spine. You're welcome!)

Does that make the Andes the sternum?

I would assume that each continent would have its own backbone. or even multiple backbones.

I will concede that my analogy might leave something to be desired. smiley - blush

Why do they call it the "roof" of your mouth. Shouldn't it be the "ceiling"? The "Roof" should really refer to your scalp.

"The brain is the attic of my mouth."
