I LOVE TIGGER AND HALLOWEEN!!!
Candycorn is good!!! But I don't expect a wandering, rugged, good-looking, sexy internet pirate to know that...
Pumpkin ice cream, Broelan!?? HErrrmmm.... we have pumpkin and chocolate chip cookies in the bakery... I have yet to try them.... I'm a little scared...

ice-cream?
I've got a guest coming for tea tonight & I am doing king prawn cocktail, gammon & pineapple fritters, with raspberry sorbet for afters.

There's a smiley for that, Archangel Dragonfly.
Do you wish you were coming for tea too?
I'm an excellent cook.
Even if I say so myself.
Well, I never get any complaints.
The first course is already in the fridge.
The potatoes are boiling, so I will mash them in a few minutes, with a knob of butter and my secret ingredient, a lump of cream cheese a dash of pepper...then I will grill the gammon steaks.
Leaving the fritters till last, they won't microwave well, like the other stuff. Out of the frying pan, onto the gammon.

What kind of costume are we talking about, broe? Got any pictures?
MsD, you have once again brightened a dark and rainy autumn evening for this old sailor, who is still slightly hung over from his 30th anniversary yesterday and forcing his arthritisly challenged fingers to write a humble "thank you, dear"
AGB, good to see you! Sorry I haven't been to your site for ages, but RL is so demanding these days
King prawns sounds super - but what exactly is a gammon? Something fishy?

my halloween costume! i was hermione granger last year... but i'm thinking of being professor mcgonagall this year as i am hosting my son's school halloween party, and something teacher-y seems appropriate.
30 years sounds like congratulations are due thirty years of what?

THIRTY YEARS AT SEA!!!! ... Is that more than Odysseus!?? YAY!!
Glad I cheered you up.
Broelan, your costume sounds better than mine. I have no idea what to be yet. It'd be cool to be a tiger or something, but I want to hang onto my money. Based on that, what can I be!?? .... A hippie or gypsy or a cat, which is what I've been every year on rotation since high school, methinks...
Or... I can be an army person, which I almost did last year. I DON'T think I should be one this year. Dammit!!!
HALLOWEEN is a school day... I was a gypsy with my green tamborine last year... Hey... I guess I could be Chinese this year... I have a cool dress I bought for a stupid dance I never went to because my silly boyfriend thought he could flirt with whoever he wanted after being with me for five or more months, and I didn't like that....
Herrrmmm....
I could be Brian Griese, the quarterback for the BRONCOS... I have his jersey... Herrrmmm... AND I have some cool BRONCOS pants... that's a good idea... but I have no helmet... I have two BRONCOS caps and one BRONCOS wooly winter hat. Herrrmmmmm....
So many choices...

Alas, 30 years of journalism. I wanted to become a sailor, but my eyesight was too poor. Instead of the bridge I would have to work as an engineer or a cook. Well, I tried both, but a NOISY engine room is no place for a boy, who wants to see the seven seas and small tropical islands with girls in grass skirts .
I also quickly learned that the galley is no place for a boy who is liable to seasickness...
So I left the sea and started as an apprentice on our local rag october 1st 1971 and haven't done anything but journalism since then - and since you never know when your time is up I celebrate whenever I have a chance . Come february I will celebrate my 25th anniversary as a qualified journalist. If I survive *that* I'll slowly prepare myself for my 50th birthday.
Chinese sounds good to me, MsD. My sister bought me a golden silk kimono years ago when she travvled The Far East. Maybe I should use that?
for all

Gammon is a large hunk of thick ham.
The meal was great by the way.
We only managed two courses before we surrendered.
Save the raspberry sorbet for another time.

Well, if I am Chinese for HALLOWEEN, I'll be really cold-- the dress is long, but has no sleeves. And I don't have a kimono.
Plus, I don't look a bit oriental.
I like the Brian Griese idea. I can have those black lines under my eyes and be all tough!!!
