Morning m'dear
I've just being having a look at the 'base ten' PR thread... and you know what, it's STILL shorter than your beach thread.
I haven't noticed that we've been subjected to a mass attack of chessplayers yet although Julzes does seem to be making some attempt to clarify his thoughts.
Blue skies and I hope they are for you too (in every sense of the expression)
PS Hope you didn't get indigestion from scoffing ALL those prawns

Unclipping the stiff upperlip for a mo'
I do in fact feel a heck of a lot better today. On Wednesday evening I had to make a little trip to emergency outpatients and they messed with me a bit for 24 hours... I'll have to go back into hospital on Sunday evening for a little op first thing Monday morning, and then I will hopefully be as sprightly as a spring chicken (free range of course, none of that cramped up in a crowded cage stuff).
In fact, I feel so much of the fighting spirit that i might have gone overboard on the ten-base thread.... it was a dog thing.
Anyway *clips stiff upperlip back on* how about you. I have the impression you're staying in the UK until your daughter gets her results. I hope the weather gets better for you. Couldn't both of you take a little holiday in your flat in the sun? I always find that the sun has a really cheering effect.
Anyway (again), I've heard about this reallyyyyyyyy good medico called Dr Feelgood

You do sound as if you need a nurse, with all those operations. It must have been quite serious if you needed to go into A&E, a complication or just not improving quick enough? You sound very brave
Is the health service good over there ( wherever)? no - that's not one of the 20 questions - just a general enquiry.
I'm minded not to ask any more prying questions now I know there may be other interested parties. If you're on Facebook I could let you know my name - that's more private than this place.
Me in England? Seems like til the end of August, I get sucked into family life when I'm here on many levels. My grandson is 2 soon, so have to stay at least for that
Oh and I wouldn't trust any - they are only good for prosthetic legs.

*Struts around, pleased to be thought brave rather than a whinging g_t*
I'm not on facebook, and as you noticed I'm not keen on dishing out personal details anywhere *cold stare to ers*
Wednesday was an unexpected complication that I thought related to medecine side-effects (it kinda was/kinda wasn't... really! A combo thing, the side-effects highlighting an underlaying problem)
The health service is excellent and luckily I'm being taken care of by a teaching hospital with an excellent reputation. All the scans, tests and what have you that I had on Wednesday night might seem a little excessive but in fact it's really reassuring that they go through everything.
I would think your island away in the sun is even better during the offseason (fewer people and still the mild climate). I'm assuming (perhaps wrongly) that you spend most of your time there.
Your grandchild's 2nd birthday will be quite an event. I don't have grandchildren but a bachelor son and I remember his early birthday parties. At one, he was too young to understand but at two! Please remember to use loads and loads of wrapping paper (for the pleasure of ripping it off, throwing it all over the place in excitement and making a mess) and make sure he doesn't burn his hair on the birthday candles.
As you say, on such an unprivate forum, it's not such a great idea to ask too many personal questions but do post anything you think you can 'share with the world'.
Are you thinking of writing any more guide entries to while away your time in the rain? I hope so and i'll write you some scatty comments and get everybody shouting at me. [And I'll answer, you can't get at me, I'm )
As ever
all round

oh dear, the poor man - perhaps he needs a dose of Dr Feelgoods miraculous cure for delusions Now who's suffering from unreality?
Anyway, I am sorry that you are having to go back into hospital, but glad it sounds a good one. How long do you think they will keep you this time?

To 'our lurker' *stands on table* "but at least she lets us know"
Lanza,
As you can see, I'm in fine (and fighting) form. I'll be going in tomorrow afternoon (processing and 'getting you ready'). The op is on Monday, so I could be out as early as Tuesday or perhaps Wednesday. The only niggle is that I've had quite a high temperature (it only dipped under 38° for the first time this afternoon). If it's too high, I suspect that the op might be delayed. I prefer to get it over and done with (plus the fact that that particular surgeon will soon be on holiday).
If the op isn't done, I suppose I could go and see Dr Feelgood (she may or may not know what a thermometer is but I'm not she has one)

have you seen the latest post on the 'trying to force' thread? I suspect that's for you... Shall I hold yer' coat?

Well Dr Feelgood has a cool and gentle hand which she often applies to fevered brows. Her good points lie in bedside manner and placebo pills and potions. (rather akin to 'smileys' - they cheer you up without being harmful) I shall try not to worry about you and hope that you are out in a trice, and don't have to go back for further "whatever it is" treatment. I'd send you a card if I knew which hospital to send it to. This will have to do instead
Wishing your fever abates.
ps. sorry about the lurking - I was following him around - aka Miss Marple.
He thinks I am a lightweight, but that is just my cover! Little does he know

I loved your ing....
My 'standind on the table' thing was to the ers we get here (the I'm never going to speak to you again variety)
Don't forget I'll be off coat-holding duties soon!
But I'm more than sure you can stick up for yourself, even if you've got to take you hat off to do it.
If you've been concocting some wonderous food though, DON'T TELL ME ABOUT IT

I just hope the loony person isn't getting your blood pressure and temperature up. I'm used to such nutbars because my daughter is married to a delightful but completely crazy chap, who has really bad bipolar disease and is prone to going off like this poor chap is doing at the moment. It was so bad recently she had to leave him and is another reason for me being here. Glad to say though that his medication has brought him back to planet earth though.

Not at all. At least it keeps the conversations lively. For some reason, i haven't been able to get down to much reading recently (one of my favourite pastimes usually) and have spend an inordinate amount of time on h2g2.
If you're having such problems within your own family, I can understand that perhaps such things 'get to you' more. I'm sure Julzes can be quite a nice chap as well, I think he really made an effort for Christiance which I appreciated. Perhaps being on some of the 'gentler' conversation threads would stop him obsessing with numbers and give him a little more balance. And his entries have in fact improved (as regards legibility at least) although I'm skeptical about his claims. As you've probably noticed, he is constantly changing and find 'new' sets of numbers. I think it might be patronising to say just calm down old chap and yet that's what he needs to do i'm sure (so many people around him probably say the same thing all the time). I hope he does in fact have people around him.
It's hard to know what o say about your daughter.... Would it be possible for her to go to your island for a few weeks? I suppose she's now trying to decide what to do for the future. And you must be very, very worried for her.
Hell, let's have a drink (a real one)

Yes, a nice glass of please - but sorry I can't discuss family here, it's not fair on them, I wouldn't mind you knowing, but as we both know this is 'public' forum. All I can say is that the whole family were out on the island for about 8 months and it was illness that made them have to give up and go back to the UK earlier this year.
Does Julzes think I'm a bloke then? Do I come across as macho? I was trying to be nice...so much for Dr Feelgood's bedside manner.

I've just let the cat out of the bag by referring to you as 'her' but I'm sure the illusion wouldn't have lasted long.
You are perfectly right about what you say of the public nature of the forum. Assume i'm 'reading' your thoughts a little on this one, quite a few difficult decisions by more than your just daughter....
I know that quite a few people ('types' perhaps) are stressed by living abroading (general frustration/alienation/paranoia) although as a family unit that should have been less. Do remember to think of yourself when looking out for everybody else
cheer up Mrs L and send me some of the Hulla girls from the ship!
