Working with 4 JW's and a variety of other religions and being Agnostic (I dispute anyone claiming to be Atheist as Everyone believes in something even if it is money or the family car!) I've found a number of ways around it...

I find the easiest way of dealing with it is having a reasonable knowledge of the religion and using it against the protagonist... It has never failed for me, but have never been rude...

I use the style of...'Yes and that is your take on it, but how about...'
Never fails...

I got Post 69, which is bound to be against some religion or other, but celebrated in many songs!

Funnily enough, the JW lady came back today, while i was with my friend, who happens to be "technically" Muslim (ie: about as much as i am "technically" Christian)....she wanted to give me a book in English "What does the Bible really teach?".

We invited her in. We were extremely nice to her & offered her coffee etc, but she made her excuses & left. I reckon the idea of a (supposedly) Arab guy combined with a (supposedly) English woman in the middle of France was a bit much. She is Portugese. We all agreed "it's a small but mainly harmless planet, Respect is the key to getting along & 42 is the answer"

What really made me was that when i actually looked at the front page of this book, it read like this:

"What Does The Bible *Really* Teach?"
*This book is the property of......*

Er, 'scuse us, but aren't supposedly holy supposed to belong to everyone?

My fiend pointed out that i do in fact have a Bible, a very large black one (because it's Gustave Doré illustrations), & it lives next to the fish tank, so the cat can sit on it whilst staring at & maybe thinking "so long & merci for all les "

The Watchtower, is interestingly, the most translated magazine in the world. And the second-most is its sister publication, Awake!

It's a good while now since I've read more than a paragraph or two of either. (There's some good reading in them still, though I no longer believe a word of the theology. I suppose I ought to mention that in some of the religious debates I've been following here, but I seem to have lost track of them recently.)

Luckily Prof I have had not had those sort of calls for ages. Mostly are double glazing companies and all I say is this is a council residence and then they hang up. I have had in the past telephone calls where the people hang up and I found that others had the same experience and they have told me that it's a type of cold calling where they do that to find what time of day you are in, so that they can nab you next time.

Whenever anyone comes with the Watchtower, I usually say that I am going out.

I've got two big black labradors that keep the Mormans and Jehovah's Witlesses away. (And trick-or-treaters and Avon and the neighbor's kids who kept giving my doggies baseballs to chew on.)
