If accepted, could go under Life/Food&drink/Dishes or something like that....

Anyone has any idea if that European Union origin protection systme has some official name? Also I'm not too familiar with baking in English so if some terms sound funny suggest better ones smiley - smiley

Your idea of the topic you are intending to voice seem to be interesting.

Would that its compositions were a bit easier and clearer to be understood, benefited and shared thereof!

Splendid entry smiley - biggrin

Your English is very good (as far as a German can tell smiley - winkeye ), only the definite and indefinite articles of the Indo-European languages may pose some problem. Don't worry anyway, this is what a SubEd surely will be happy to fix.

If you're using GuideML you can add a link to the 'Kuopio' entry like this: Kuopio . This is a copy of your other entry which is the one that will be part of the Edited guide once the (Sub-)Editors are finished. It's a good idea to open it and click on the link starting with 'Click here to be notified of new Conversations...'

Thanks, smiley - cool

I've allways known that articles are not my speciality, since they dont exist in Finnish. Same goes with some structures in the text, they are quite "Finnish". But like you wrote, SubEds should have something to do.

Havent been using GuideML so far but I'll try it someday. smiley - huh Might take some time though...

Cool entry...I had no idea that such a food existed, but it sounds like the best thing since sliced bread.smiley - biggrin Just two typos that I could see: can't without an "'" just before the recipe and wish instead of fish within the directions of the recipe.

I don't know if you want to go to the trouble, but some subheadings in guideML would help too, but that's just my opinion.

This was great, thanks for the time and effort, I'm sure it will get in.

smiley - wizard

A very good entry. Congratulations!

For clarity, I suggest you change the title to something like 'Kalakukko - the Traditional Finnish Fish and Bacon Pasty'

I think the combination of fish and bacon is unusual and interesting (although the French have their Coquilles St Jacques).

Many people will not have heard of the vendace. In the UK, for instance, it is extremely rare outside of the English Lake District. Just add that it is a tasty white fish found in lakes in Northern Europe.

'Hanna Partanen's bakery sells just baked ones' - I suggest 'Hanna Partanen's bakery sells them freshly-baked...'.

You don't need to trouble yourself with GuideML right now if you don't want to - your headings are fine as they are.

smiley - cheers

The official name in English for the EC scheme is Protected Designation of Origin.

From a quick search, it looks as if kalakukko has only been added to the list of protected designations very recently, since July of this year. It doesn't show up on some of the older lists.

Thanks for the official name of the system and other comments. Kalakukko is a newcomer on the list, since nobody has showed intrest in making and selling them in European markets. Hopefully this will change and everyone will be able to get their fare share of this outstanding product! smiley - winkeye

I sent it back to the editors.

About one minute after I did, I noticed the errant question mark in the first header.

Strangly enough, the Scout who selected it and I shared a similar view. Neither one of us would try these things. The Scout was a vegetraian and I don't eat fish.
