Super, Matt
Oddly, one of the children at school had brought her seashell collection in with her today and I was doing just this...

"However, if you put your ear to a shell in a soundproof room where there is no ambient noise, but still air cycling through the shell, the wave sound is noticeably missing."
Heeeeee-uge sentence there Matt! Also, the first time I read it, I couldn't decide if there was still (as in remaining) air cycling through the shell - or still (as in becalmed) air cycling through the shell.
Erm, that's it though. Other than that this is a dispiritingly great entry to the contest, and to the Guide...

Cheers Psy, I think...
I've reduced that sentence and added a footnote, as I felt the Entry was sadly lacking in that department

You mean it's not your blood you hear rushing?
I never knew that.
Then again, I'll have to take your word for it, as I don't have a soundproof room.

Every time someone mentions Conch Shells I think of Lord of The Flies and Ralph blowing through the shell. We had one in our bathroom window, and - well it had to be done didn't it.
I went up to the bathroom, got down the conch, put it up to my mouth, shaped my lips and around it and ---- screamed as I sliced my lip open on the razor sharp edge !
Shells - should come with a health warning.

Well, I shouldn't laugh at your misfortune, but it's amusing nonetheless
I can just see the Surgeon General ordering his lackies to imprint warnings on all shells found along the coast...

Fantastic idea for an entry, and well-executed too!
My grandparents have a big conch shell and when I was younger I would listen to the waves every time I was there.
