There's a problem with proof of supreme cleverness by having the last word. When the last word is had, the thread will drift out of sight, everyone will forget about it, and no-one will know who was the last worder. The cleverest person will obviously be clever enough not to mention the evidence of his cleverest status, because when he does, someone else will search out the thread, and reply to it, thereby stripping him/her of his/her proof.
The only way to claim the having of the last word is to wait so long that nobody could be bothered to dig out the thread, but by then everyone will have forgotten all about it, and won't know what they're talking about. Instead of seeming clever, the last worder will just seem odd.
Since the thread is fundamentally flawed, I guess we may as well just wrap it up here.
