So far mine hasn't done anything like that - perhaps having parents who over-indulge in a variety of vices causes the children to rebel against them by not smoking or drinking. I set a bad example and since acting like 'dad' is uncool my son limits his rebellion to a love for WWF wrestling. At least if he does do stuff he doesn't get caught!!

Mair's failing was that she got caught because she'd not been discrete and fortunately some of her peers "grassed her up" and reported her to the staff. Mind you, I think the 500ml of vodka missing from my bottle in the fridge, may have raised some suspicions at home! (She'd decanted to and filled an empty bottle of Coke!) I was so embarrassed though when I had to face her "pastoral manager" at school!
Her "partner in crime" disposed of her evidence and so Mair took the blame for both of them being drunk... Fortunately, as Mair is normally a "model" student, the whole incident has been forgotten. *Phew!*
So, do you think if I started partaking of drinking (I couldn't smoke) and generally behaving badly, the kids would be so shocked that they'd turn into "model citizens"????
At the moment, Mair and her younger brother, Christopher (who is autistic) are both totally absorbed with "Dragon Ball Z"... When they're not watching it, they're painting/drawing pictures or browsing the DBZ sites on the internet!
Do you just have the one sprog or are there more?

There's more, hey but now I'm an ACE I've got an email address so why not email this question to [email protected]? My personal life gets quite tortured, computer prgorammers are generally socially inadequate and so what chance does an androyd have?

androyd Posted Jun 25, 2000
What happens is that the email gets forwarded to my own email address. It's for security I guess, plus it's cool to have an h2g2 email.

Gwennie Posted Jun 26, 2000
That's a good idea, really. Just in case you upset someone, hey?
But you're right, it's "cool"! I feel uncomfortable using that expression for some reason - probably related to my age!!!!

Oh well being a Londoner, if you know what I mean, especially working around children it's an everyday expression down here. But then that's 'cos it IS cool down here. It's been a lousy summer

Hi Androyd!
If you don't like the English(?) summers, why don't you move to another country? *smiles a shy, elflike smile to make the question softer*

"Well met by moonlight, proud Titania".(WIth apologies to W. Shakespeare whose words are better and Greebo whose lighting is better than that). It's precisly because London is so cool that I love it so much. I've always felt drawn to London for many years and felt at home here although I only found out two years ago that my family on both sides actually originated in London. Anyhow it's part of my programming to moan about the weather, I was specially adapted to fit in to English culture. You complain if it's too wet and then when the sun shines you complain that it's too hot. Where are you from, you right royal fairy?

Born and grew up in Sweden, but both parents Finnish, and myself being a big fan of Flamenco - what does that make? I don't know, but I feel quite satisfied being the queen of elves....

Ah, Sweden. You don't really have much weather up there do you?
It's snowing/it's not snowing/it'll be snowing shortly.
How's Oberon by the way?
The Star Wars Room
Titania (gone for lunch) Posted Jun 26, 2000
Oberon's fine. Snowing? Not this time of year, stupid
This is the time of the midnight sun. In the north of Sweden, the sun never sets. (Pretty tough on you if you haven't got blinds, I spent a week up there, and how can you sleep when the sun is shining all night trough? *slides behind the bar and mixes herself another gin&tonic*

*androyd looks startled at the sudden appearance of gin and tonic behind the bar he built and stocked* Magic.....How did that Stranglers song go now? Ah yes:
'Let me tell you about Sweden,
Only place where the clouds are interesting...'
Still a country that has given us Anders Limpar and Freddy Ljungberg can't be bad as far as I'm concerned.
But what brings you to the Star Wars room, Titania?
The Star Wars Room
Gwennie Posted Jul 2, 2000
I think Titania has been banished by the Wicked Witch of the West.
Sorry I haven't been here for a while...RL was proving hectic (still is, but I'm ignoring it, hoping it'll go somewhere else for a while).
How's things?
*Wonders where the gin and tonic came from*

I;ve been having problems both with my connection and with soem problem with h2g2 but I'm getting by. It's near the end of term and I'm tired.
The Star Wars Room
Gwennie Posted Jul 3, 2000
Sorry to hear that. *Offers a sympathetic ear*
Are you a teacher? My big bruvver is a teacher, in Surrey somewhere...So is his wife. He's constantly harassed, poor chap! I think he'd like to jack it in, if he could.
h2g2 has been very busy some evenings and so slow, that I've given up. I thought this sort of thing was sorted out with the recent revamp...

I teach 3-5 year old humanoid like creastures. There are 180 of them each day 90 am and 90 pm. It gets tiring.
I agree about the slowness but apparently one of the h2g2 servers is offline and this has slowed things down. SHould improve soon.

Gwennie Posted Jul 4, 2000
Tiring? It sound positively nerve wracking to me!!! *Retreats into her shell at the thought of 90 under-fives*
Ah, that's why h2g2 was so slow! Glad it's nothing to complicated!
The Star Wars Room
androyd Posted Jul 4, 2000
Apparently they can now upgrade servers without taking the whole thing offline, just slowing it up. How are you generally?

Gwennie Posted Jul 5, 2000
Clever stuff! Have you any idea what happens when suddenly, like last night for instance, h2g2 just ground to a halt. I had to log off. Other sites I wandered off to were okay so it wasn't anything my end. (Just remember that you'll be explaining this to a technologically challenged female suffering a mid life crisis, so please don't confuse me!)
Actually, I keep meaning to Email you...*embarrassed grin* but do feel free to mail me anytime. [email protected]
How am I generally??? Gosh! I could write a book, already!!! Are you sitting comfortably? *Takes a deep breath*
John's in bed with another migraine which is him out of action completely for the next 24 hours. I have to do shopping before the kids come home from school so shouldn't really be here. I haven't been down the gym yet this week and won't get time tomorrow or Friday because I'll be working in the Red Cross Shop as a volunteer. I've had a row with BT on the phone this morning and forgot to cancel last month's editor's selection from my book club, so had to phone them up this morning. Last night I had my right knee x-rayed and I have a blood test to be done too, as the GP thinks I've developed rheumatoid arthritis. The car's MOT is due in the next few days and the exhaust dropped off it last week which cost me my birthday money from my parents. The car's insurance is due in August too. Life on Income Support is frustrating and I wish I was qualified enough to earn a wage that would support my family. It was my 43rd birthday on 1st July, I hate getting old and have come to the conclusion that youth is wasted on the young!!!!!
In spite of all this hassle though, I'm just bloody grateful to be alive! Nature is fantastic!! There is nothing like feeling the sun on your skin and breeze in you face. At least no one can charge me for that!!! (Well, I do have to be very careful in the sun though, as I've had skin cancer...Fortunately, it was caught in time.)
I bet you wished you'd never asked now, hey? (As I said, I'm having a mid life crisis!!!)
*Reaches for her Zimmer frame and hobbles off into the sunset*
