Atop the Big C (The Observatory)
Chris Tonks Started conversation Apr 23, 2000
Hello there! I'm Pr. C. Tonks, GalaGroup Overseer to San Beta, and owner of this magnificent research vessel.
Fell free to admire the stars from up here, or take a stroll in one of the four different climates of this huge observatory/park.
I'll be stopping by from time to time, but I have an awful lot of administration to sort out, so I'll be busy.
Enjoy yourselves!

* a lone figure stands mesmerised by the sights outside the Observatory window. If anybody else had been here, they would have noticed that the person in question has in fact been standing here for over 29 hours. Actually two beings have observed this phenomenon, but didn't like to intrude as no questions were actually asked of them. They are Chance and Ardal, two fish who reside in a large aquarium in the centre of the observation area.*
.oO I think this has gone on long enough Ardal Oo.
Oo. My sentiments exactly Chance .oO
* so saying, Chance and Ardal execute two perfect triple somersaults up out of the tank to land back in with a simultaneous 'Plop', the sound being magnified in the vast space on the Observatory*
* the lone figure is shocked into activity by the loudly reverberating noise*
WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?
.oO Ah a question. That was us Oo.
SORRY DIDN'T SEE YOU THERE
Oo. We had noticed .oO
*B-17/2 consults his chronojewel embeded in his fingernail*
HOLY CRUD! I'VE BEEN HERE FOR OVER 29 HOURS. I'VE MISSED MY RENDEZVOUS. I'M GOING TO BE REALLY NARKED WITH MYSELF.
*B-17/2 turns to the fish* IS THERE SOME SORT OF COMMUNICATION DEVICE ON BOARD? MINE DOESN'T APPEAR TO WORK HERE, OR THE WAY TO THE LABS, I COULD ALWAYS TRY TO MODIFY MINE?
.oO Sure just go back down the corridor to the great hall... Oo.
Oo. ...and turn right, you can't miss it .oO
THANKS GUYS
*B-17/2 leaves by the nearest exit with a sign above the door that says Great Hall This Way ------>*

I wonder if it gets to a point where you can't actually count any higher because the number gets to big for your mind to comprehend & simply add 1 to it each time...?

By the time you got that high, your eye wouldn't be able to see any more stars. But if you looked out of a shuttle window, it is a possibility. It would be interesting to see what would happen. .. assuming, of course, someone's willing to sit, counting, for weeks on end...

It'd be hard though...you couldn't even play "I spy..." for fear of losing count...

Why don't you try counting then...?
it might help...you could even imagine the starts were in little wooly sheep outfits jumping over fences...?

njan (afh) Posted Jun 18, 2000
could do... but my bed doesn't have a view of the stars, only of a main road.

Umm...you could count the stars on a photo...that way you won't have any problems with the Earth rotating & what have you...

[Beeoo, beeoo. Attention all observatory star gazers. Space station must realign itself to view the San Beta-annual Star Explosion Display from far distance. All gazers are advised to keep all eyes on what they are looking at, and make sure they don't lose it, for fear of slight annoyance.
The SED will take place shortly, and all people who wish to view it may do so from the usual viewing bays or from the central command console, where they can chose to view the scene from a different zoom.
Please do not obstruct the view of the laser guided camera, which will be filming the event through the force field of the observatory. You may do so by avoiding the red laser pointing to the scene.
Pease enjoy. Thankyou.
Deeoop, deeoop.]

OK people, here's the thing: the time till voting in the h2g2 Virtual Prez Elections is almost up, and it simply wouldn't be fair if you didn't have a quick glance at my policies. Right, here are a few pages you *must* see:
My Campaign page:
http://www.h2g2.com/A402742
An apology and a commitment:
http://www.h2g2.com/A417421
Something that went terriby wrong:

Please, please, please go and have a look at those pages! It is vital so you get the right impression of my intentions as President!
Please, all you people who regularly come to this 'station, and help me work it, all you people who aren't bothered to vote, or can't choose who to vote, VOTE ME!!!
