My concept of the word 'cute' has now been thrown to the winds. Does that mean that I should look at rabid dogs and French Rugby players in a different light?

mmmmm French Rugby Players... deffo cute.
er... if you look at the original meaning of the word, it's (apparently) a contraction of 'accute' - and should, therefore, be written 'cute - meaning 'sharp and clever'
As for Rasputin... I showed the Gruesome Twosome a cartoon version of Anastasia (not the really well known one) and Rasputin was pretty horrible, but they did play up his "magic eyes" and "strange gaze"
The cartoon was a load of... er... poo, though.

Film? Was that the one with the flying bat? Agreed. Guano.
Am thinking can't really do Rasputin's features justice without a suitable picture. But I'll give it a go.

not the Disney (?) one. This is by Sony entertainment and I can't really recommend it. The Gruesomes only got it because it was €5...

Actually have read it now. Looks pretty good to me. Not too elaborate, but it explains everything well.
(it's been to long for me to remember much, but none of this stuff looks familiar. That's probably one of the reasons it's so coherent )

Read it - liked it
Is it just me, or does Rasputin's difficulty in a quick demise sound a little like the similarly Russian character of Boris the Blade from 'Snatch'?
In the sense of, '...rumour has it that it's near-impossible to kill the ...'

Hiya PGHF,
There is one bit that might well fit in this piece. One of the reasons that Rasputin's demise seems extraordinary is the combination of his 'claimed powers' and the amount of poison that had he had been fed. An explanation is available, if you're interested in it.
It appears that much of the poison (I thought it was strychnine, but it may well have been cyanide) was used to lace the sweet cakes he enjoyed so much. And, it appears one of the antidotes for the poison used is massive doses of sugar and/or fat.
The particulars are a little foggy to me now, but it seems that they were unknowingly giving him the antidote simultaneously with the poison.

re post 19 - "real b*****ds" you shouldn't say things like that - it could have a negative effect
Entry looks good I hope you don't mind if I offer a few typos and suggestions:
in Rasputin and the Romanov's:
mircale > miracle
"living around the tsars" > surely only one Tsar at a time? maybe "moving in the Tsar's social circle"
tsar > Tsar
He became a resentment of Nicholas > He became resented by Nicholas
Russian populous began to believe > Russian populace began to believe
in The Death of Rasputin:
tsarina > Tsarina
dumbell > dumbbell

Hello there. This should possibly have gone through the UpdateForum to be honest, and I'm not sure if we can get away with quite so much Boney M in that third bullet point. However, if you can let me know when this is finished, so we can do the necessaries here?
ta lots,
Jimster

This shouldn't have been submitted through Update forum, as although it is a rewrite it is a rewrite of something picked up from the Flea Market, not an EG entry.

hmmm. Update Forum? I picked this up from the Flea Market via U201497 and with kind permission rewrote and submitted to Peer Review on suggestion from U115552. Hope I went about all this the right way, as I said earlier is my first time at a rewrite
Think it's as finished as it's going to be though, I'll let a Sub-Editor get their meaty claws into it now

I meant to add this little bit about me prodding Jodan's work into PR: F119240?thread=405584 Was unsure what to do you see, but was set right. And aren't Update Forums specifically for Edited Guide entries anyway? Jodan took the first Rasputin Entry from the Flea Market AGES ago!!
Did I do the right thing? Am awfully sorry if I made a boob

You did the right thing . Jimster made the boob it seems...
He is probably right about the third footnote though... it's quite a big quote. It might have to be edited down or out in the sub editor stage, so you might want to change it now so you still have control over the content.

It's been a long time (ahem) since I studied the Russian Revolution, but are you sure about crediting the Rasputin/Alexandra relationship as a contributing factor to the October Revolution, especially given that Rasputin was bumped off in December 1916? There's a case for arguing that the relationship undermined public perception of the Romanovs and contributed to the February 1917 revolution, but the revolution of October 1917 was (if memory serves) anti-imperialist in principle, and the key revolutionaries weren't that interested in what Rasputin and Alexandra had or hadn't been up to, being more concerned with ousting Kerensky's Provisional Government and putting Marxist principles into action.
You've almost prompted me to dig out my dissertation, but the entry is too good for me to trail down two flights of stairs on the offchance that I might have anything to add - you've covered it all really well, it's just that the above point leapt out at me in the way points do when I'm only supposed to be having a quick peek before I go to bed early (sigh).

Good point, I didn't even think of that (seeing as it's been a while since I did the Revolution too...ah sweet memories of Trotsky, anyway, I digress). Have fixed up the Entry and I think...*touch wood* it's finished!!

Brilliant enter.
Rasputin has always been one of those guys that fascinated me. Little things like wandering off for several years, then being posioned/shot/drowned to death, plus the eyes of the man are just fascinating.
The only problem i have with the entery is the fact or fiction section, where you put the drowning section. Id say it should be in fact. The mystism of the man that was rasputin meant he surely was still alive when he was chucked in the river (whose name escapes me).
You should also mention that he told the Romanovs that Russia would never fall whilst he lived (refering to the Russian monarchy), meaning you could included in the fact or fiction section whether it really had any relevance to the fall of russias monarchy (who where all rounded up and shot a few years later iirc)

Sorry to jump in this late, I was just wondering about the structure of the Rasputin and the Romanov's bit, could you not rework it slightly to make it a bit more chronological, it's just that you mention the Tsar going to the front in 2 separate bits, without really expanding on it the second time.
Key: Complain about this post
