I'm going to try and get hold of What Katy Did next for Dolly, I think she will enjoy it. She has read virtually all the Jacqueline Wilsons so I don't know what else to steer her towards!

i know its old fashioned but i still think its a great book

I think I'll give it a go for her.The trouble is its hard for kids to get into reading older style language when they have been used to Wilson and the like

i think she would cope specially if she likes reading - at that age you tend to devour whatever you can lay hands on -
i still remember ( i think ) katy getting her ears pierced and threading them through with silk - bizarre isnt it what sticks in your mind ?

Actually I think Little Men and Jo's Boys are really interesting in terms of a woman doing something she wasn't supposed to be doing - before her time if you like - I think they'd be good to be read as a series.

yep with you - i look back on them with fond memories maybe its time to read them again - no ! i cant afford to buy em this month i have banned myself from amazon !

I saw Little Women as a stage play last year..a bit hammed up but it caught the flavour of the book really well

did you see the film ? i started to watch it but it didnt grab me and i cant remember finishing it

No i didn't. I knoe there was a remake a few years ago of the original..think its in the library..perhaps I'll get it out and have a watch.
I used to love Little House on the Prairie books when I was younger too

I never fancied the film - looked a bit hokey - it's not actually that hokey a book is it really - people die and stuff....

no its not a hokey book and people do die and the father is away to war - i think the film was too schmaltzy and put folk off - as i recall anyway - winona rider was in it which is enough to put me off

Library was closed! I knew it closed one daya wekk but thought it was Thursday..have to go tomorrwo instead. Oh well. back on here now instead!

I must admit I have a bit of a problem with libraries being full of computers and not so many new books! THen again hopefully the folk at the computers might just be tempted to read a book every now and then!
