Anyone a fan of Mr Banks in his "M" stripe?
I have been a fan of his "straight" fiction for years, but recently I have discovered "The Culture" and been really impressed. By far the best Science Fiction I have read in well years.
Some of the ideas that this guy comes up with, man he must be "mad in the heed" but boy oh boy does it make for entertaining reading.

Well as in his straight ficiton there is quite a wide variety.
Old school space opera in "Consider Phlebas".
Llyod biggle Junior esque in "The Player of Games"
Darned right sick (but delicious and wicked as well) in "Use of Weapons"
More down played and character oreintated in "Inversions"
and darned right nerdy in "Excession".
My absoltue fave though is "Against a Dark Background" which is pretty dark shall we say.
