You can have a familiar floor plan, or even a well known floor plan, even if you are not on familiar ground 
This is particularly found in chain hotels

Having good flooring is quite necessary, but in many situations you would be grateful for a good grounding.
One describes the way you've covered your floor. The other means that you are well-informed about something. Even further apart in meaning than the floor/ground thing in post 1. Not that people would confuse them.
