Tea: how do you like yours?
Auntie Winnie - gravy train proprietress Started conversation Jun 1, 2013
Hello Dearies!
My next column in The Post will deal with the drink that held the Empire together where Harold McMillan failed to: Tea!
But in the meantime, how do you like your tea?

depends.... on various things.... differnt for differnt teas....
Small leaf asan, brewed in a teapot, with just* a touch of milk in it, though sometimes I have it black.
Jassmine, darjeeling, asan teabags, etc., just black...
'Builders tea' (I.E., brand-name teabags like tetley, PG-tips, et.c, etc.,), very* strong, and black (useually only as a final resort, if there isn't any decent coffee, or its just the only availible hot drink)...

Normally I have it black - no milk or sugar and piping hot. Every once in a while I'll get a craving for what I call a teashake: strong builders tea, brewed for quite a while with a lot of milk and sugar.

Hot. Splash of milk. Two sugars. China mug. Digestive biscuit.

How about some spreadable biscuits with it?

I like different teas too, but tend to make them in similar ways.
I like a bit of builders' tea on everyday occasions - a good colour, with milk but no sugar.
I also like Assam, Darjeeling or Earl Grey, and serve them with just a dash of milk (I know there is debate about Earl Grey and the milk situation, but I just prefer it with milk)
I have tried jasmine tea, green tea, white tea (all without milk) but they're only for rare occasions.
Cheers!

A little water into the pot just before the water boils
Swill
Empty
In with the tea
As the water comes to the boil... into the pot
Sit on your thumb for four-and-a-half minutes
At the four-and-a-half minute mark, swill out the china cups with the remains of the hot water
Empty the china cups
Count to ten
Pour
Deliver a china cupful to Ms Stress
Take yours
Sit down
Pretend to enjoy
. . .
(I druther have coffee)

I usually drink green tea, with a drop of ginkgo extract, a strong dash of lemon and sugar.

Nobody has done this yet?
Earl Grey.
Hot.
I like tea when it isn't so strong that it makes your teeth feel funny. So that means in a tall, white china mug. I tend to use tea bags because it's quicker but the rules apply whatever kind of black tea it is (i really prefer Earl Grey or Lady Grey) It must be strong enough that I can just still see the bottom of the cup. Oh and no cow juice in mine thanks. Sometimes a piece of lemon.
It must also be very very hot. lukewarm tea is disgusting.
I also - and British people must not hold this against me - love herb tea. There are so many yummy herb teas available here in Germany, I drink them a lot. But they must also be piping hot.

I like the builder's tea HonestIago described - hot, strong, milky & sweet. I don't ever drink it that way, though. I have it medium strength, splash of milk and a quarter of a spoon of granulated sweetener to take the edge off.
These days I mostly drink buttermint tea. When you open the box it smells like murray mints. Unfortunately it doesn't taste like them, but it's marginally better than any other mint tea I've ever tried to I stick with it.

I really like fresh mint tea (any mint tea is good but the fresh stuff is totally gorgeous) and that must be either very very hot, or iced. There are a few places in Düsseldorf where I can get a cup of that and it's really lovely to sit outside on a cool summer evening with a glass of that and just relax.

Hello Dr Anthea, religious reasons? if you don't mind me asking why I have not come across that before and I am genuinely interested.
If you would rather not say that's Ok
