Do you feel like an adult?
Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am... Posted Feb 15, 2012
"When I became a man I put away childish things, like the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up." - C. S. Lewis.
I feel like an adult. I don't always feel like a grown up.

I feel I slipped seamlessly from todderhood to middle age without really bothering with the interesting stuff in between.

Heh. I frequently joke that I went straight from young and angry to old and grumpy without anything inbetween.

swl:
>>Was George Galloway given due credit when you repeated the Tory MP/Panda meme?
Actually I suspect we picked it up off teh memosphere more or less simultaneously.

Nope. Galloway claims he invented it - http://blogs.dailyrecord.co.uk/georgegalloway/2012/01/whas-like-us-er-the-english-actually.html
"As I was the FIRST to say, Scotland has more pandas than Tory MPs, and they have more chance of procreating too"

The point is I'd hope an old Billy Connolly joke wouldn't appear on the front page of a site supposedly dedicated to original and creative writing. Seeing a tired panda meme make QOTD (not to mention the old "belly as the fuel tank for a sex machine" gag) is pretty dispiriting.

Alright swl, I've already said I don't watch much of Billy Connolly's stuff!
I apologise wholeheartedly for my post.*

Well in my defence...a) I didn't choose it for the front page and b) it appeared as QOTD some while after I'd bored everyone with the re-telling. The meme was only in the early stages of rigor mortis when I plagiarised it.
Jaysus, you're in a chippy mood, but.

Much the same as those who have already commented, I feel like an adult most of the time but I'm not afraid to be a bit child-like sometimes.
I had a fantastic snowball fight the other week, for example.
It did take me by surprise a bit when I reached my late teens/early twenties and people really started treating me as an adult rather than a teenager or child. I've even had people in shops call me 'madam' which is disconcerting. (I'm 25)

I do hope swl wasn't listening to R4 just now. Someone's just repeated 'the old joke about there being two pandas in Scotland but only one Tory MP.'

Mol - on the new tablet Posted Feb 16, 2012
Well. Aside from the light saber thing (although in my case it's a fairy dress), the day I realised I'd become an adult was the day I found myself saying 'Oh no! Snow!'.
And *then* I found I was wrong, because Osh is a nine year old boy and, since the Long Hard Winter of, erm, 2010, *he* always greets snow with 'oh no!' as well. And he makes complaints about it (number of pairs of socks needed etc) which I know I've never said, so he hasn't got it from me.
So now I feel like I'm a 9 year old . Plus I have the coollest fairy dress in the *world*.

Billy Connolly again:
'Some people volunteer for old age.'

And some people volunteer for youth, regardless of how ridiculous it is for them to do so. Is that necessarily any better?

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am... Posted Feb 18, 2012
I'm all for people expressing themselves and doing what makes them happy rather than what society expects, but there is something a little tragic in a woman (or man for that matter) who's never seeing 50 again acting and dressing like a 19-year-old.
