How falling over yourself to be offended are you?

"Yes but when we've thousands of them here it might be. If they get to be volunteers and decide these things."
Um.
No.
I seriously doubt this will ever be a site where the religious beliefs of a few volunteers will be allowed to dictate policy. And, frankly, I doubt such people would be voluteering anyway.

Let's assume that this site is a microcosm of our society.
My guess would be that religious interests would no more dominate than they do in society as a whole.

This site is pretty much domineered by a religious perspective. On the basis that DNA was an overt and avowed atheist, many feel free to expound on their opinions and shred those of almost any faith or belief system. And it has always been allowed.
So already, h2g2 is a 'religiously' dominated site. Any wave of thousands of friends of Jehovah, Yahweh, Mohommet, etc, they will have an uphil battle.

So who does decide these things? And on what grounds?
I've started yikesing here now which I've been advised to do.
Some people are very clever with the rules...just as they were in the past..despite all this stuff we were told about *context*
If I have a post described as offensive which is disappeared. I want to know exactly why.

I'm going to try to find an Evening Class to learn what constitutes 'offensiveness' in 2011..on a 99% white...99% middle class...80-90% Brit/ and her former dominons living folk...with around 10-20% Euros..

I think you're being disingenuous, Frs. You know fine well when you're being offensive. Half the time you gloat about how you're doing it to be edgy and artistic and nobody understands you etc. etc.
It won't wash. You're not even fooling yourself.

Well, at the moment the House Rules are simply re-worded versions of the ones the BBC gave us. I have no idea what the procedure would be for major revisions to the HRs and I can't see a situation in which there'd ever need to be, but I would like to think there'd be some level of community involvement.

Which is what the Moderation Team email address is for, if you want to query or dispute a decision you must speak to the Mods through the proper channels, especially if the initial email is in any way unclear.

You are playing that game again Ed.
Stop being so transparent. It's offensive.
Or maybe you really do judge these things in that way according to your culture and circle of friends..nahh it's a pose for present purposes..and I know you won't admit it.

Re: Post 48, ... which of Ed's posts do you refer to as offensive and transparent?

Is it a pose? Or transparent? Which? I can't see how it can be both.
It was sincerely meant. I think you like to cause trouble and then play victim. Unfortunately, this causes hassle for others. I remind you that the ones who have to sort out your trail of self-indulgence are unpaid volunteers. They do not owe you anything.

A transparent pose. Don't be so literal.
I don't play victim. Every time I turn on a bit of healthy sarcasm and humour on this site now it gets yikesed for being offensive.
I think they call that double bind.

Hopefully someone else will turn up soon for same old games.

Seriously I did think with new h2g2 there would be a groundswell for new ways of debating and discussing...but the same old boring oppositional style always re-asserts itself.
We need a revolution

There isn't a groundswell....because there is hardly anyone here.

"I did think with new h2g2 there would be a groundswell for new ways of debating and discussing"
And I thought *I* was naive.

'Don't be so literal', ... 'Be totally upfront and honest', ... Which is going to be the new revolution, clear and plain or sub-text that only the one can see?
Viva la ... ...
I'm lost ...

Hoo, you are so naive that someone actually thought you and I were one a few days ago. I took that as a sideways compliment, btw.

Surely the prevailing style of debate is decided by the community in a kind of unspoken consensus sort of way rather than from any interaction by volunteers, PTB or enforcement of the HRs.

Edward the Bonobo - Gone. Posted Nov 23, 2011
It could be, Frs, that people have decided that they don't actually *like* your way of debating? That nobody else wants to play? This is not necessarily a reflection on you - it may be a perfectly fine game and everyone else may be a shower of dolts - but it's just that it isn't working. Wrong time, wrong place. A prophetess without honour.
So maybe, in your own interest - the best thing to do might be to play along?
Just a suggestion.

A groundswell is a bit like the mother lode.
